It has two single coil pickups, it sounds like a jazz bass but with its own character
So this is more so a Jazz bass than anything else? Interesting... I am just not super familiar with these different setups. But I have heard a ton about the Nordstrand pickups.
Think this bass, a premium SR, could work in most settings/genres? I am hoping to get the 1 bass that can fulfill most of my needs as I can't afford to have multiple basses.

I owned the SR1200L with Nordy's for a while. It had a much punchier, more 'boo-teek' tone to it than a J bass. I just ordered another Ibanez with the Nordy's in them because I love the punchy tone.
Ran across this on local CL for $950. Seller has it listed as a 1305B. Is this a decent price? Of course, virtually no details included so I'm not sure if it comes with a case, gig-bag, etc.
Nah, it's an o-k price. I sold mine (that same model with black hardware) in inmaculate shape for $800ish shipped. And have seen them sold on Reverb for around that same price,or even less.
Outstanding instrument that I'd buy again in a heart beat, regardless.
I played a 1305 for a couple of hours before I bought my 755NTF which is a PJ. Personally I prefer the PJ but I messed with the setting a lot during that trial and since then have replaced my bridge pickup with a Nordy Big Split, so a couple of thoughts.
The 1305 (and the 755NTF, for that matter) and looking at the 1105 which I think will be much the same, are beautifully finished and fairly light on a strap. Like all basses they will either be comfortable for you or not, that is just a personal thing. The J bass neck pickup location does sound different to a PBass but the passive electronics set on mostly front pickup with the tone rolled back a bit is enough that I wouldn't notice the difference at a loud gig. In passive the Jazz bass tone is just as Alaskanlefty says.
The active electronics are really effective and allow you to coax a lot more out of the bass and really manipulate the sound. More zing, bigger thumps - they're there. There is almost a Stingray and a P in there using it, at least so the average person at a covers gig wouldn't notice. It wouldn't fly here at TB if you did a sound test but it would in a bar or beer garden on a Sunday afternoon.
Finally, if you want a more "P" type tone, replace the neck pickup with a Nordy Big Split and if you want a little less burnt in brightness but with plenty of zing still available also replace the neck pick with one (which is what I think Ibanez have done with the EHB1505 and they describe it as having a "hybrid PJ character).
Just my opinion though.

I wish mine had the black instead of the gold, it's a great bass. I'd talk the price down though
I picked one of these up last week...I love it...I owned another bass with the Nordstrand big singles, and I've had another Ibanez soundgear, but it was the SR675 with barts...they're quite versatile, but I'm not sure that they fit in the P vs. J conversation at all

I used to shop at Nordstrom before they were bought out by Macy's.
I am as low as I can go on the action of my Ibby. I don't want to shim the neck but sometimes think i'd like to go another 1.5mm lower like my Aria Sinsonido which I shimmed. Has anyone tried a Schaller 3D-5 bridge on a Soundgear? Did it fit, did you get lower than standard action, pros, cons etc?
I'm planning on getting a SR500e. I could use some help on a few questions:
1) Are all new SR500e basses made with Bartolini Mark II pickups?
2) Some of the SR500e basses on Ebay from Japan are selling for a lot more that those sold in the US. Is there a difference?
3) I'm curious regarding the color of the bass. Some of them online seem to be a deep reddish/brown with visible grain:
Others seem to be a lighter color without much grain:
Perhaps the color difference is due to lighting.

The latest iteration (the ones ending with E) uses Bartolini BH2 pickups, while the earlier versions (without the E) use the MK-1 pickups.I'm planning on getting a SR500e. I could use some help on a few questions:

If you want to buy EXACTLY what you see, choose the one you like at SweetWater.
They show photos of the actual instrument & include their weights.
However, my advice is to look for a pre-owned Premium, you can find them for around $700 USD, they have Titanium-reinforced necks & GOTOH machine-heads, & get one with the Nordstrand pickups, SO much better than the Bartolinis, IME:
