Okay, somebody talk me back off the ledge...or give me a shove, I don't care. Seriously contemplating removing the stock Premium preamp and installing a yet-to-be-named replacement. I'm leaning towards an Audere Classic module as it's a known entity. The pick-ups are Nordy Big Splits, not Singles. Some suggested replies:

*Riis...quit your whinin' and buy the damn Audere.

*Not a bad choice but I'd recommend a ________ preamp instead.

*I've heard you play and no upgrades can help...stick with the stock Ibanez pre.

I'm back in the fold with an SR4605. Apparently it's a prestige offering Ibanez made earlier this year. Though, I can only find information on the bass through the EU Ibby site. Anyway, this a beautiful instrument! Swamp ash body, 5pc wenge and walnut neck with a wenge fingerboard- similar to other prestige and premium offerings. For me it helps that the bass is orange (fav color). I'm getting used to the Bart pickups again, they're a little polite compared to what I'm used to. However, I already swapped out the Elixers for some GHS pressurewounds and that has made a huge difference. Only one pic so far, even though my wife is a photographer, I am a hack by comparison...

I've bought myself a couple of SR's over the past few weeks. I'm a noob when it comes to bass but have had guitars for many years. I picked up an SR670 and an SR375EF, never played anything fretless in my life but I really like the sound and how easy the 375 is to play

Waiting for one to show up in the classifieds but my needs are fairly specific: 5 knob, 3 band w/ mid freq switch. That leaves one empty switch hole...probably stick-in the optional battery LED ($8).

Riis, I know it's a similar product, but my experience with my Jaguar's Jazz Plate 4-band preamp has been great. Well-made, well-documented, simple to install, and transformed the instrument into one that's usable anywhere, despite the name Squier on its headstock.

If you're able to pay the price for it in these times, get it. You won't be sorry.

If your Ibanez has a separate battery box already, wiring it in will be easy. Don't sweat that.

Audere sells modules that work in the control cavity. Different product, but similar high quality.

I was on the fence for awhile about buying and installing the Jazz Plate version in my Squier VM long-scale Jaguar P/J, but it completely transformed that bass from one that was just pretty into my most-played of the 10 basses I own. Great preamp.

Now I just have to remember to unplug it so the battery doesn't drain...

I've done Z's, J plates, and Classic modules, just no experience when it comes to mating with Nordstrand Big Splits. The battery is tucked-away in the control cavity but that poses no problem. For $129 (Classic), I hope it's a marked improvement over the stock pre.

Not worth the effort IMO. The Classic modules are cost effective given my meager needs.
