So after my big speech about my great situation yesterday, I started really GASsing when I noticed some of my favorite design elements of the ANB205 in the Cort GB7's and got a 4 stringer, and then I bought a Cort Rithimic V, cancelled the ANB205 replacement… and have only spent 75% of the money. Thank G-d I'm dealing with Sweetwater because I'm definitely a small shop's worst nightmare. In the pictures I posted, check out the neck pockets, and know that the necks use the same woods and thin lacquer treatment. It also uses Hipshot Ultra Lights.


Anyway thanks for coming with me on my roller coaster ride and maybe see some of you in the Cort club (until I finish that GSR mod) It's ok, with all the design similarities between Ibby and Cort, we're still cousins

Years ago I bought an Ibanez and Cort bass at the same time. When I pulled them out of the shipping box, the cardboard boxes were identical, even with nearly identical setup instructions internally. I too have noticed the similarity between the two. I think Cort is the parent company and sells a lot overseas i.e. Europe, Russia, Eurasia, etc. You don't see them a lot on U.S. websites. I'd own a Cort again one day down the road. But I'd have to sell a few basses first!

I don't think it's a "parent company" as much as a factory that they contract to build them.

To clarify, the parent company of Ibanez is Hoshino Gakki. Cort is independent. Cort both builds guitars under their own brand and builds guitars for other companies under contract.

I believe I said nothing more than what the parent company is and agreed that Cort builds guitars for them. Nothing more was implied.

You did an excellent job! I like buying basses that are less than perfect or damaged. After a little elbow grease they double in value and there's pride in a job well done. Congratulations! Can't wait to hear your sound clips.

I don't know about "double in value". I don't think it could get any cred for being anything but a project bassn until I got GSR off of the headstock. It's a 2012 bass (not available with maple FB anymore) and it feels amazing... really solid. On a different thread I was having a conversation about neck wood being more stable after about eight years. That has definitely happened with this bass neck.

I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts or experiences with this bass. I'm fine with any negatives, but don't bother complaining about the MK-1s, I (brace for controversy) prefer them to the big singles any day of the week.

I've been keeping an eye out for a used one haha... and yes the Mk1 pickups are actually pretty decent, it was the old mk1 pre-amp they used to use which was total garbage, they sound way better with ibanez new pre-amp

I own an SRSC805. The position of the upper strap button at Fret 13.5 means that the balance is worse and the reach is farther than on the double-cut SRs. I do enjoy the 18-mm spacing, and it is perhaps my best-looking bass.

Yeah the ANB205 was the best build quality bass I've owned, but if I'm honest, the neck was not great for me, as it was designed to make playing higher easier. The 12th fret sat where I expected the 7th fret to be, so I'm really looking forward to this Cerro

Yeah in the 2000s and early 2010s they were pairing the mk1 with a "mk1" preamp and it sounded pretty thin and sterile, many folks weren't too satisfied. After experimenting it became apparent that the pickups weren't the problem, so people would upgrade the preamps to something better. I guess Ibanez took notice because they started using their EQB 3S or some variant of that preamp around 2015 or 2016 in basses with mk1 pickups and they were definitively an improvement. Now the preamps are all labeled "Ibanez custom electronics" etc etc unless specified (for instance the Adam Nitti uses a Bart NTMB and the Gerald Veasley uses an Aguilar OBP-3)

The information was on their site. The direct replacement for the MK-1 is the MKCBC Soapbar. Sorted.

I've written this before, be sure to order the 6 string version, the MK6CBC, when upgrading the SRSC805 MK1 pickups with US Bartolini's. The MK6 has the same enclosure size as MK1, MK4 and MK5, but with wider internal sensing width of 84mm. The needed sensing width on a wide 18mm string spacing bass such as the SRSC805 is about 72~75mm, whereas the MK5CBC sensing width is only 71mm.

I have both the SRSC805 and 806. Love both the build quality and the playability. The only difference in the two is the pickups. The 806 has BH2 pickups while the 805 has the MK1's. The 6 string has more of a cleaner modern tone. May upgrade the 5 string with the US Barts.
