The Soundgear Club

…May upgrade the 5 string with the US Barts.
I am curious, are you thinking about upgrading the 5 string because of a desire for a different sound , or an objective lacking of the instruments design (I'm thinking of my Cort Jeff Berlin Signature… they built a B A D design… incredibly well)
The reason why I ask is because I am really trying to accept basses for what they are, instead of changing them into how I imagine they could be… That's my own trip.
In that sense I kind of envy the 15-year-old kid who has a MIM P bass that they worked all summer for, and they play the hell out of it for years because… It's all they've got

I just heard back from Gotoh, they said they have nothing to offer in the way of a suitable replacement for the B IV bridge.

Is there anyone in this group who has replaced the Accucast B IV with someone else, and had it work? Please? Thank you.

Hey Just wondering if you had any luck finding a replacement. the B IV on my 1991 890 just gave up the ghost, it is broken and not repairable.

So I contacted Ibanez about a replacement for the Accucast B IV. Ibanez noncommittally suggested a B20 bridge. Which is also discontinued, so I found one in gold on Reverb. 75 Bux shipped all the way from Indonesia! It will be here in about three to four weeks. But in the mean time has anybody looked in to the KSM foundation bridge. it has almost the same dimensions as the B IV.

Those big aluminum blocks are pretty, but I think you made the right choice with the cast B20.

Did Ibanez ever make an SR Bass with a Musicman style pickup?

And....I have now discovered the SRX series. However, from what I have found here on TB, the necks on the SRX basses are thicker than standard SR necks.

So, did Ibanez ever make a bass with the same specs as a standard SR, but with the MM style pickup?

Not meaning to split hairs too much but it depends on what you mean by "MM style". The SRX humbuckers are significantly smaller than Musicman pickups, so aside from the exposed pole pieces they don't have much in common -- among other things the sensing area will be smaller so they won't be able to sound exactly the same.

I did not realize that. Everything that I read so far was comparing them to the Musicman or Stingray.

I was thinking of buying one of these and dropping in a MM pickup. However, from what you are saying those would not fit (routing would be needed). But I can rout. That's not a big deal.

I've been thinking lately that I want a bass that doesn't exist: it would have an SR neck and L2000 pickups and electronics, so we're kind of on the same page here

Price check, please....

What's the going rate on a second-hand Ibanez SRX705nt? Found one locally but appears to be a bit steep from what I've gleaned.

Edit: scrap it...weighs in at 10+ lbs.

Ok so the B20 arrived. It is beautiful but the mounting holes are in a spot to where I would have to fill the cavity where the ground/bridge plate go. I do not want to fill this. So there is a black chrome complete NOS never mounted bridge on Fleabay. I bought that sucker, it got here and I love it. I mixed the gold saddles with the black bridge and it looks cool ( I reused the mounting screws, hence the crustyness). So the NOS bridge cost me about the same as the aftermarket bridge. So no huge upset there. Now time to find some better knobs, those green things are a bummer. lol
