I was going to post this myself - for example look at the recent boards from Ibanez in the EHBs etc with different voicings and gain so they can be used in different models. If I were the EE for Ibanez, and I am an EE, I'd design the minimum number of boards that can be used in the largest number of models with just different plugs.

Try Thomann, some of the Harley Benton strings are pretty good from some reports. I'm waiting until my next large purchase to throw in a couple of sets so they effectively ship free. I used to use a cheap brand for my 4s I got off ebay for years as they were OK, lasted decently and were cheap. I haven't seen them for sale in a while, but I mainly use 6s now and they didn't make a set for them. There's a string forum here where you can check opinions on brands and models too.

Those strings should be fine and the slight differences in string guage won't matter. As for which strings are ideal, now is about learning to play the instrument. Just focus on that.

I also agree that a good set-up matters most at this point. And, perhaps, your trusted tech can help with the electronics.

Since I realized my mistake today I've been looking into perfect fit sets of strings but it's not so common apparently because I only found a few options online.

I am taking it to my trusted technician on Monday to do a setup so I'm assuming it's fine and the little difference in gauges does not do much?

That is assuming the previous owner isn't already using similar strings.

Noob question but I do wonder if it's that important the difference or not.

String gauge is more personal preference and your instrument should play fine an .080 and .100 you'll just have to have the setup tweaked again if you ever change gauges when putting on new strings

Anyhoo I have owned 4 soundgears a 1993 MIJ SR890TT, A SRKP with the Korg Kaos pad and built in distortion switch, a 2000 SR405 natural that is currently stripped down. Then there is my pride and joy, a 1994 SR1200FL fretless.

I have these TI flats in the classifieds that would fit a 4-string SR. You actually might need to trim them a bit since I had replaced the tuners on that bass with Gotoh's and the posts are thicker than the ones that come standard on an SR. These would be the last strings you'd put on your bass for years to come - I've maybe got a few months of infrequent use on them.

He said it was done at the client's request, and even went back for a bit more carving later. I'd just hate to carve up the wenge like that meself, but if it made it a better player...

I think I'd buy a lower model and do it to that rather than an SR5000.

Hey all. Just wanted to reach out for a little help with something terrible that happened...

Had an MR4 bridge break where the ball is captured on my SR1206 this morning while changing strings and found another that's bent upwards. Terrible timing, but I've got other basses I can use for gigs this weekend.

Has anyone else had this happen and know if the parts are available anywhere? I got an email back from Ibanez saying no longer available and waiting on something from Drums Etc. to see if they've got any stock, but maybe one of you out there has some advice...
