Hi--- I was brought an ibanez Soundgear (korea) SR405 to fix. This one has the pcb / 9 volt setup. I see on the board there is an empty chip socket. It would take an 8 pin op-amp. So......which ic / op-amp does this board use ?
maybe someone here could take a pic of their soundgear or tell me the number on the chip ??

Now that I take a closer look, that's a different board than what mine has, also with mine the battery has it's own compartment. Mine's made in Indonesia, so I don't think I can be much help. Sorry.

2024 was the year of the Soundgear for me. Coming into it, I only had an SR1500. Over the course of the year, they just kept falling into my lap, so now I'm at:

'89/'90 SR1000 Black
'90 SR1000 Lazer Blue w/ Geezer Butler set
'91 SR1500
'93 SR1300-PD
'94 SR1305-PM
'98 SR1010
'00 SR645 Gray Nickel
'01 SR885 Black
'99-'01 SR3006 (the headstock inlay serial number scheme on these has yet to be properly decoded afaIk, were they Sugi-made?)
(I also bought a '99 SR800A in Transparent Cherry, but a friend begged to buy it off me the day it showed up!)

I *think* the blue 1000 is my favorite, but it's a tough call. They actually are all quite different!

I'm the king of decision-paralysis but finally took the leap and installed an OBP-3 in my 755 (stock MK1 pickups). In a word, it's better...maybe $130 worth of better. OTOH, I never realized how weak the bridge pickup is in terms of "heft". Some better pickups MAY remedy the situation but we're at the point of diminishing return IMO.

the Mk1 are notorius for this. Raise the bridge pickups so high that it barely gets scraped by the strings.

+1. Actually, walterw did this during the install but I dropped it a screw turn as it was too wobbly. I had better results rolling the blend towards the neck pickup a tad. All things considered, it sounds pretty durn good. I may consider a swap-out if I can find a drop-in or P2's on-the-cheap.

Forgot to mention: no room for two switches so Walter removed the A/P switch and re-assigned to a push-pull volume pot.

Did these replace stock MK1's? Did you also swap-out the proprietary preamp?

P2s fit perfectly - had to play with the amount of backing foam but all snug now, no wiggling.

I've been looking at an Ibanez SR750 TKF. The ad says it was crafted in the famed Fujigen factory in the first year of production 2001. I play short scales but I would also like a full scale. The weight is listed at 7.5 lbs and near mint. I'm familiar with the resale value of most bass guitars other than the Ibanez lineup. They're asking $844 and I thought that this club would be the place to ask if they are asking too much.
