Picked up a PD7 Bass OD pedal the other day, it's fun, I'm gonna have my tech take a look at it and possibly mod it a bit next week. I think I'm having a bit of GAS for another Prestige. My wife is going to kill me. :hiding:

The result was a mixed blessing. The MK4 definitely has richer, fuller sounding highs. No doubt. But the lows seem less warm - almost a Gibson-ish sound. That's OK if you like that sound, it's just not what I'm going for.

The MK4 is much hotter, so switching from the MK1 bridge to the MK4 neck (or vice versa) requires a lot of volume adjustment. I should have seen that coming. I didn't want to buy a pair since I'm happy with the bridge PU.

Blending has mixed results as well. Beginning with the neck pu full on and adding the bridge doesn't work very well (not surprisingly) until you get to the middle detent. Beginning with the bridge and then adding fullness from the neck works pretty well. No complaints there.

One question: This bass has an extreme amount of sustain and I'm surprised since it's a bolt on. I much prefer less sustain and I have no idea why this model does what it does. I tend to think of neck-through designs as having more sustain and I'm wondering what reason a bolt on would have so much. (Bridge mass? Woods used in neck? Other?)
All ideas welcome. My dream bass would be this body and neck but a Fender-ish sound. I'm trying to figure out how to get there.

In my experience, Bolt-On's can have just as much sustain as a neck through. I think it's just a matter of getting the neck pocket tight, and when it's perfectly tight then it's as good as a neck-through.

The pickup placement on the SR's is totally wrong to ever get any kind of Fender-ish vibe happening IMO. Even if you push J pups in those spots, they won't sound like a Fender. The Neck and Bridge pickups both are much too far toward the rear.

Thanks, Eublet. That's good info. I had wondered about the neck pocket - and truly my old Fender is about as poor a fit as I've ever seen. Love the sound though.

I hadn't given pickup placement any thought at all. So I dropped a photo of a P and and Ibby similar to mine in Photoshop. There were a couple of surprises. One is that when the nut and the bridge are lined up, the 12th fret is not in the same place. That makes me think they are not the same scale, but I thought both were supposed to be 34".

That observation skews my thoughts on placement, which otherwise looks pretty similar. But if the scale is different then the placement can't be compared via pictures like this. But with the fretboard on the Ibby so much longer it sort of confuses the comparison without laying photos on top.

All in all, some interesting ideas to consider. Thanks.

I've recently bought an Ibanez sr255 5-string bass and it sounds pretty cool. the bass has a smooth clean punchy sound and the 3-band eq on the bass makes the bass have a wider range of sound. also the nato body(which is a wood-type that's related to mahogany) sounded really nice. I bought this bass in a candy apple red. the color looks really nice. this bass is a real keeper for me. since I dig the sound quality on this bass, I am thinking about purchasing the Ibanez sr250 4-string bass for my brother's band. I was thinking of buying that bass in a starlight blue finish. it's a shame that the Ibanez sr255 didn't come in a starlight blue finish. if it did, I totally would buy it. but since it didn't come in starlight blue, I bought it in candy apple red. and that's cool with me because I do like red-colored basses as much as I like bass guitars that are in blue, black, and grey. awesome bass guitars, I definitely would recommend these basses.

this is my SR7005MP(W?), i bought used last week.
Couldn't find this in any catalog, it seems a mixture between a SR5005MPW from the '96 EU catalog and a SR7005MW from the '97 EU catalog.
Body is a walnut center with maple wings and neck ist bold on 5 piece wenge/bubinga with a wenge fretboard.
Hardware is cosmo black or similar (like the '96 SR5005MPW),
PUs are Bartolini humbucker soapbars and electronic is a Bartolini with 3-band EQ and switchable mids (3 positions).
Serial number is 50xxx with no additional fab char, stamped into the abalone logo on the headstock.

Here's a shot of my '94 SR1305 and SR500. The 1305 has USA Bartolini's and a Bart 2 band pre. ALSO equipped with a Bart Piezo bridge, very cool! Just about to install the wires and stacked pot.
Not a great pic, but you get the point. Yes, the forward tone control was pushed through during shipment years ago. The previous owner did a decent job to fix it. It's quite un-noticeable in regular or stage lighting.
I guess I'll get a Club# since I'm completely taken by this tone, playability and feel.

Wow, that's a really interesting model. What's the neck like on that one and the weight?
