The Spaceman Club

Ok, I might sound like an idiot, but here goes...

I'm not a big dirt guy. It's not my favorite sound, so I have a difficult time find dirt I like. I have a drive circuit in my amp(Bergantino Forte HP)that's pretty decent, and I recently got an MBD2 that I'm enjoying quite a bit. Right now, I'm using the MBD2 as a super low gain enhancer in conjunction with my amp's drive circuit. I'd like to get something that can do medium gain OD. I guess I can go one of two ways with it? I could...

1. Get something to take the place of the MBD2, and use the MBD2 as a higher gain OD.
2. Get something that excels at mid-gain, and leave the MBD2 where it's at.

The reason I'm here is the Saturn VI seems like a good choice for #1, and the Apollo VII seems like a good fit for #2. I'm just wondering if I missed something, or I'm off bass here? I'm also thinking about the Southampton Ictineo as possible contender for #1.

Any insight will be appreciated. Thanks! Also, any chance of a new Explorer Deluxe? Some of the ones on Reverb are $800-$1000...

The Saturn is a great dirty boost / light overdrive. The Apollo on no-clipping is what I would get for light-medium overdrive.

I think the Saturn VI would be a good choice for option 1. I recently picked one up and am using it for this same purpose and think it sounds pretty great.

Thanks, guys. I just got a smokin' deal on a new Saturn VI, so that's on it's way! I'm gonna take another look at the Apollo. Maybe I pickup an Apollo, too, and promote my MBD2 to full-on raunch mode?

I also need to save my pennies and try to scrounge up an Explorer Deluxe. Definitely one of the best phaser sounds I've heard...

Good grief! I'm going thru my Murder Hornet Stimulus check like I don't have anything better to do...:rollno:

Now there's a Spaceman Apollo VII on it's way to my house...:help:
Option 3 always seemed like the best choice, LOL!

Congrats! Interested in hearing how the Apollo VII works out. I'm enjoying the Saturn VI so much that I'm tempted to give one of these a shot.

Holy :woot::woot:! The Saturn VI and the Apollo VII are an amazing combo. They are both perfect for what I wanted them for! The Saturn VI, by itself, adds a depth and richness to my sound that's warm, but still surgical! Even if I crank the gain knob, it just gets creamy and slightly grindy, I LOVE THAT! The Apollo VII, by itself, is just a stellar medium-gain OD. I need to fiddle with the switch and try some different settings(I've only had it a few hours), but the setting I started on(Gain at noon, no clipping), was a dirtier version of the S6, warm, very grindy, and still surgical! Obviously, it was pretty glorious chaining them. The S6 just gives the A7 a slightly bigger, ballsier, sound. The best part is that the S6 also makes the MBD2 sound fatter, without having to flip the 20db switch on the MBD2. The MBD2, by itself, is just outstanding! It actually does all 3 jobs as well as the Spaceman stuff(sound warming, mid-gain OD, high-gain OD)on it's own, but it plays so nicely with the Spaceman stuff that I'm just enamored with this trio!

For the first time, since I started playing bass, I'm looking at the dirt section of my board and thinking "I can't wait to use these!"

I should have most everything to finish this iteration of my board this weekend, I'll get some pics and try to get some sound samples.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Got my Atlas. Loving this pedal and it has kicked my TC Spark off the board!!

I am curious though how the Saturn VI compares. If anyone has one they are looking to get rid of, let me know. I'd like to put together a comparison video.

EDIT: Just scored one on reverb for a good price! Can’t wait to compare the 2.

the Atlas is clean all the way up basically - the Saturn starts dirty
