I get what you're saying, but blending in clean doesn't give me the "bite" I'm looking for.
When I'm using an overdrive, it's those distorted upper frequencies that give my tone a "sparkle" that I like.
I'd rather have plenty on tap, and be able to dial it back, that want it, and not have it

Haha! My favorite there (playing the blinded game) was actually the Saturn VI, with the Barbershop a close second. I was surprised about the Saturn VI, didn't recognize it even though I own one. Still have to try it at 18 V.

I recently listened to a bass video reviewing the Saturn 6. It sounded pretty damn good. My only concern would be I might need a little more drive than what the S6 delivers. Which leads me to the Apollo 7 and or the Redstone. How does the A7 do on bass? Any major low end loss. I'm assuming the A7 is just a higher gain version on S6, minus the diode switch.

But what about the Redstone? I dont need a preamp pedal. I just need an OD pedal. But does the preamp section serve useful to dial in missing lows and mids from the OD?

What do yall recommend?

I had and Saturn and Apollo and still have the Redstone. The Redstone has more gain on tap than the Saturn, but I felt the Apollo had the most out of the 3. I wasn’t a fan or the Apollo. It sounded farty to me. The Redstone is more natural to me and sounds very good. The gain is different than the Saturn though. It’s hard to explain. But if you like the Saturn, but want more gain, the Redstone is a good one to try. Especially at 12v

Has the mercury booster been permanently replaced? I’ve been going back and forth between the S6 and the M4, but I no longer see M4 on the website. I feel the red stone would be more complicated than I need. My brain appreciates simplicity. I’d like to have a low gain OD that is touch sensitive enough to always be on. I had been thinking about a M4 always on and maybe get the S6 to kick on when I want “obvious” OD. I think the atlas would be too subtle and the Apollo probably way more than I’d like?

I think that’s a solid plan. I use my pedals as a low drive, not an always on. I kept the Redstone as is liked my GK amp better. The Saturn sounded better with tube amps I’ve owned in the past for some reason.

Two things I'll add,

Not mentioned on the site or manuals, but confirmed by Spaceman themselves,
The Redstone and Saturn VI can both safely be run at 18V.

I've tried both at 18V, and feel the breakup is more "airy" and open sounding.
They do have a different feel in the way they breakup, due to the Redstone being Germanium and the Saturn VI being FET.

I like both, and don't feel one replaces the other.
I actually really like the Saturn running into the Redstone.
