Dang it, you gotta warn me that you're going to post pics of that bass! I didn't have time to put on my drool bib and now my keyboard is moist!

I use the yellow Dunlop bottle, I think it says 65 on it.
I realized that the fretboard on mine wasn't so much dry as the Indian laurel is just gray. It also looks and feels like replica wood somehow, kinda plasticky so no amount of oil will warm up the color and the feel. 30+ years of constant gigging will but I ain't got that kinda time.

I suppose this is as good a time as any to ask you folks how to make a fretboard glassy and shiny like 60 year old rosewood?

After doing some digging on the 2022 models, it almost seems like there’s been a slight refresh in the realm of whats been happening with the new CIC classic vibes. The new laurel boards are far darker, and listings for the nut width have changed to 1.6. Not sure if thats a mistake but interesting for sure.

I've seen the darker fretboards but Fender still lists the nut width as 1.5". I wish it was wider!

Anyone have a chance to try both the fender jr and the Squier version? Been on the search for the fender to no avail but might cave and just buy a 2022 squier if the differences aren't all that impressive.

I've got F-One oil.

I also like the Planet Waves lemon oil but I can't find my bottle of it.
I think D'Addario has basically buried that brand so that has new branding now.

0000 Steel wool, use it with fretboard oil.
I use it on dirtier boards sometimes. I've also used it to smooth rougher boards.

I also have F-one Oil. I had a bottle of Dunlop fretboard oil for years before that.

I'm finishing a bass body in Howard's Feed n Wax right now and I might try it out on my fretboards because it's making that body look great.

For years I used to use Manson lemon fretboard oil. Then I read somewhere that for Martin Guitars it was okay to use 3 in 1 oil. And that's what I used on fretboards and rosewood bridges for a while. More recently I have been using Linseed oil.

I love linseed oil for my wood projects but I wouldn't use it on a fingerboard.
Drying oils like BLO (boiled linseed oil) polymerize as they dry and can get a little gummy. Also some blends have toxic materials as drying agents.

Yep I would imagine so.
It shouldn't get gummy if it's a thin layer.

BLO really brings out the warmth of wood and makes it pretty.
I'm sure it looks amazing.

I've used it on a gunstock which conventional wisdom says not to do as well.

I’m using food grade mineral oil, same stuff you use on wooden cutting boards. My understanding is that it’s essentially lemon oil, without the perfume and some other additives. Works well, and is cheap at the grocery store. The bottle I have will probably be around long after I’m gone.

No steel wool near my instruments thank you. I'll just use micro mesh then.

I took it to the luthier and traded a guitar I wasn't fond of for the labor to install the new spiffy pickguard, do needed fretwork, replace the crappy loose output jack and upgraded the pots. As soon as I get my bass amp from Amazon, I'll let y'all know how it sounds! (Don't want to blow out my guitar amp.) I've played guitar for years, and this is my first bass. So far I've learned to play Hungry Eyes, House of the Rising Sun, Stand By Me, and Under the Boardwalk (yes, I'm rather old).
