Oh, I remember this. A bizarre excuse to mash an interesting character with a dull one. It deserved to die.

But, thank you for reminding me of another Voyager annoyance -- EVERYTHING becoming "sentient". The Doctor, 80% of the Holodeck population, etc.
An annoying plot device to "radicalize" The Doctor into a "freedom fighter" whose insurrection Janeway completely dismisses with more hand-waving.

I mean, he was an unusual character and we can talk about it with some humor, but I think it was cold blooded murder and was a bizarre writing choice for a captain we’re meant to respect and admire.

And really the same thing here. There’s fun to be had discussing the prime directive, but it is a complicated subject. It just is. Interfering with natural the evolution of a species isn’t a simple subject.

I don’t begrudge anyone watching Star Trek at face value, but it’s brings up a lot of serious ideas worth examining, IMO.

Way back, like maybe in the early 80s, there was a guy with that blooper reel (or something very close to it, probably pirated or stolen) traveling the country doing pay-to-see-it shows at venues like college campuses. This was before the Internet and this guy had something very exclusive (at the time) to show Star Trek fans. It was literally a reel of 16mm film and about as worn as in that video. I think I paid like $5 for the privilege of seeing it screened.

Edit: I just remembered that the guy doing the show didn’t seem all that up to speed with regard to Star Trek. He kept referring to William Shatner as “William Schacter”. I am not making that up.

Edit #2: All that on-set male hijinx would be a big scandal today.

Thank you do much for this. I ended up watching the entire thing. I forgot how good the episode Q Who was, and The Best of Both Worlds was truly an awe-inspiring moment in television!
