It's crystal clear that Paramount likes the creative team behind the current Treks, and the finished products. All we can do is resign ourselves to watching, or not watching. Anyone who HATES these shows shouldn't watch. Why torture yourself? :)

I'm resigned to accepting it. I'll watch it and probably like some parts of it and not so much other parts.

I don't understand what there is to like about the Marvel universe. The movies STINK to me. Not that I've watched any part of it for years. The last one I remember seeing and liking was the original Spider-Man. I did give Black Panther a couple tries but couldn't get through the first hour. A fan could give me a thoughtful, detailed explanation as to why they like it but it wouldn't mean anything to me. My mind is made up. No sense in beating that dead horse. ;)

Friend just got the new director's cut of one of the Avengers movies (I think it's Avengers, not sure). It's 4 hours long. He was so excited. Then he discovered the director's vision for the movie is in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Friend is like super disappointed.

What can you do. ;)

Do you like ST Picard?

We enjoyed the first season of Star Trek Picard. I liked that the Romulans are featured - they never seemed to get enough screen time in any of the other spin offs, and I think they are a great adversary. The ending was not very good, unfortunately, but we enjoyed it none the less.

I am less hopeful toward the second season. I really, really disliked "Q", and in fact, he put me off to the next generation. And now that there's time travel also involved, I am even less hopeful. But we'll watch it, because we're addicted. And Teddy likes all Star Trek.

I like revisiting familiar characters. I like the sense of gravitas. I like the production values. I tolerate the storyline. Sometimes I cringe at the dialog.

So to that extent yes I like it. I won’t watch anything I really hate.

I probably made numerous disparaging comments about Season 1. Clearly none of that rose to the level of discontinuing watching it.

Do you think the story in season one made sense?

Apparently it didn't bother me enough (or I don't take it seriously enough) to stop watching. It was a fun ride.

You want yes or no answers. Is it a 1 or a 10? Sometimes a 6 is good enough.
I get that it didn’t bother you. Well, I don’t get it, but I accept it.

Take the state of the Romulan Empire, for example. Their main system was destroyed, and as a result there are Romulans living in poverty on a refugee planet. But the Empire spanned a significant portion of the galaxy. Hundreds of star systems. Maybe thousands. So the state of the Empire as presented in the show is nonsensical. That doesn’t in any way take away from your enjoyment?

Well I guess it should bother me. But somehow it doesn’t. Probably because I’m less demanding that everything make total sense.

I remember that long video you posted where the guy spent about 90 minutes trashing the show. I laughed my ass off at it because so much of what he said was true. But I’m still in.

BTW the people who make teaser trailers are generally extremely good at their job. But they can only work with the material they’ve been given. Some elements of the new trailer are just lame. Right from the get go we can see the show still has some of the same problems.

I wonder what the throwaway line explaining why he looks 30 years older will be.

Now that’s the kind of thing I refuse to criticize. The actors age. Some faster than others. What’s the alternative, do what they did to Brent Spiner? That was inexcusable. Data always strove to become more human. He might deliberately alter his appearance to age like a human. Then there would be no need to cover it up, and pretty badly at that.
