The Status Register - Official Status Graphite Club

Just a quick comment on some of the delays people here have been experiencing with getting emails answered. It was only when I visited Status earlier this year that I realised what a tiny business they are - it's Dawn, Rob plus one other in the workshop. They pour all of their energy and investment into the manufacturing the instruments we love. I now always ring if I need a response, if I email I expect to wait a while although in the latter stages of my build Dawn was responding very quickly. Calling may not be as easy for those of you outside of the UK though. It's never been a better time to support businesses like Status.

Very nice. I do love the Sterling but can't get on with narrow necks so fitting a Status Stingray neck could be the answer.

This also leads me to think about fitting a standard Ray neck on a Sterling. I didn't realise they'd fit.
Only on a five string will they fit. Both stingray 5 and sterling have 22 frets
The sterling 4 also has 22 frets while the stingray has only 21. The intonation would be out on the four string models

Got my headstock decal in place.
Not a fan of the naked headstock

I also sent a "suggestion box" question regarding the MM4 necks.
Since the new stingray specials have moved to the 22 fret necks from the original 21, I would love to see Rob offer a 22 fret stingray neck. (Preferably with a jazz profile option)
I want a status neck for my 22 fret USA sterling 4

Hello, and thank you for your help. Has anyone epoxy coated their fretless Phenolic fingerboard, as an added layer of protection against the wear from using round wound strings? Interested in hearing any thoughts on the subject. I play with a fairly light touch and my vibrato is side to side, still the wear is beginning to show. A coating would protect the board but would also increase the high end, my Stealth is fully covered in that area. Don't want to change string gauges. Light sanding when the damage starts to affect the notes? Please inform me of the obvious and the not so obvious solutions to the future problem lieing in wait. Thanks again. Everyone please take care and stay safe. It's crazy out there.

Side-to-side vibrato is the problem. For EUB and fretless, it really should be along the string axis. Sounds better, and doesn't eat fingerboards nearly as much. I use side-to-side vibrato on my fretted Stealth and Streamline, and while I can see some fret wear, there's *zero* wear on the fingerboard, so they're already pretty tough.

Thanks Sid Fang, I'm probably going to leave everything alone for now. If it ever starts to affect the notes, I'll take care of it then. Thanks for your help. Take care, stay safe.

Just a heads up for those who may care...
After a three month wait, My Status Jazz neck Has been shipped will be delivered From England Monday or Tuesday .
As I stated previously, I'm not going to use the neck on a now abandoned project and will be putting It up for sale immediately.
I'm charging exactly what I paid for it but will ship it to the buyer on my dime.
If anyone is interested, keep an eye out in the coming days.
Thanks

Also curious, anyone ever played a streamline with the double MM pickups? I've seen a couple videos, but curious how that config sounds vs the soap bars.

Also considering a custom build, anyone done the Bendwell? If so, how are you getting along with the 32 short scale? I generally play only 34s and never cared for 30" short scale but never owned a 32, I'm gonna throw capo on to see how I like it...

I'd love to hear opinions/experience from other Streamline owners on these topics. :)

I had a 32" scale S-2 with the bendwell.
I didn't keep it. The neck was extremely tiny and narrow string spacing was too much for me to adjust to.
I didn't utilize the bendwell at all. It's not really useable with my gauge strings (45-105) and I believe it was envisioned with the super light gauge strings in mind.
The only thing I appreciated was the fact that I could use standard long scale double ball strings On a 32" scale bass.
Of course, your options and tastes may be completely different than mine.

Thanks Less, yeah I'm on the fence with the Bendwell, don't know if I would hotdog it enough to use it. :)

I do play pinch harmonics with my right hand frequently but only occasionally bend them, I was considering 32 just for comfort (really want a 33, but not available) I play light strings (5'er with .40-120?) I know the Bendwell comes with .30.

I'm planning to order another 5 but with 17mm, the 18mm is just too slow playing for me I prefer 16.5-17mm (most of my basses are 17mm).

I need to decide the pickup config, I'm leaning towards the double MM as they're close enough together that I think they would feel like a ramp. :)
