I love my S2 but I have to wonder: am I the only one who wishes that the G string wasn't so close to the edge of the fretboard on the five strings with 18mm spacing?

Same thing on my Streamline... no adjustment, just a bummer that I have had to adapt to.
I find it strange because Rob's basses are otherwise so well engineered. It seems to me like a pretty obvious thing to take into account when designing a fretted instrument (and, if I'm not mistaken, the earlier Status fives did have some extra room - though maybe the string spacing was narrower on those).
I wish the bridge on the Streamline was slightly tighter on the spacing as the standard, 18mm is just too wide IMHO... I know some can't play with 17 or 17.5mm but just makes better sense to me on this instrument as the neck is just not that wide (yes I know you can custom order it that way, this was an in stock standard config). Better yet, do like many other builders and provide an adjustable bridge.
I tend to bend notes down slightly on occasion (when soloing), so this bass requires just a slight adjustment in my playing style... not a big deal, I just have to adapt.
still a great little bass, outside playing it now.
IME every instrument has its own little idiosyncrasies

I've been able to adapt to the limited space for recording but on stage I like to have a bit more wiggle room. Again, it just seems like a weird oversight to me.
I undersand what you guys are talking about, but for whatever reason, it's not been a problem for me, in the studio or on stage. Now, the Bs on my Stealth and Streamline 5ers aren't as on-the-edge as in Barticus' photo, but the Gs are about as one sees in that photo, and it doesn't cause me problems. A lot probably has to do with how you do bends and vibrato. I've always done bends toward the center of the neck, and my bass vibrato is more an up-and-down thing than the back-and-forth guitar thing.Yeah, there could be a little extra room on the B string side too.
Been away from here for a while but took delivery of this just over a month ago. I visited Rob and Dawn in Colchester in January to spec the build - the world has changed a bit since then and the build was delayed but it was well worth waiting for.
Great looking S2. What did you choose for the body wood? Standard 19mm spacing?

Ah, nice. Utile is what Rob used for my S2 as well. I'd never heard of it before.
It's also called (perhaps more commonly called?) Sipo or Sipo Mahogany.
Mahogany seems to be in the Status "vernacular." I have an S2 5 string (headed) with mahogany body. It gives some warmth to the overall tone which nicely complements the clarity of the graphite neck.

I'm guessing that Rob has used true mahogany as well as utile. My first S2 spec sheet listed mahogany while the one I received last year had utile listed in the specs. I'd be interested in knowing if Rob currently offers true mahogany as an option. Regardless, my current S2 sounds fantastic and is certainly more to my liking than my old S2.
I know he did because mine is True mahogany. As certain preferred go to species get more expensive or endangered luthiers sometimes go to the nearest alternative. @rojo412 built me two new custom basses this year, onE with status neck as documented here:

These and the other custom he made me had African mahogany body woods. It used to be Honduran Mark and he was preferred but then it became in danger. My 1988 Fodera is made with a Honduran mahogany body and I cannot tell the difference visually or tonally. The only
Difference I can tell is that African mahogany is not endangered, readily available and quite affordable.
Likewise. I believe it is the go to for bodies now. To be honest I doubt I could tell the difference.
