Mr. Entwistle had a huge bass collection as far as i know. Does anyone know, what happened to his collection?
Or did Mr. G. Lee buy them all?
Im pretty sure that Geddy doesn't really care for graphite neck basses anymore. He had his quick run with the Steinberger bass.

Forgive me asking the obvious, but have you checked the batteries? On my Stealth and Streamline, there's tone suckage like that, toward the end of battery life.
I have not.... I'm used to the end of battery life farting sounds on the modulus so.... Yeah I didn't think to replace the batteries but that's an excellent point and somewhat obvious now that I think about it.
Re The modulus that pickup placement isn't an issue. Eq on that bass is set flat, centered on both pickups. Tone shaping done via the head, nothing radical.
The pickups on my B-2 are VERY midrange-y when solo'd but when both are full on (pan knob in center detent) it's a very smooth, even tone. Try replacing the batteries but if that doesn't change anything, it could simply be that your ears are hearing what a Status bass sounds like, which is quite distinctive IMO.
Different circuits fail differently. I was once so negligent as to have the batteries in my Stealth get so low that the circuit went into some kind of oscillation that I at first assumed was coming from the PA, 'cos I'd never heard a guitar or bass make such noises. Never had the Streamline go into oscillation, but there is a sort of boiling-the-frog effect when the batteries gradually get old and the tone very gradually gets muddier and middier. I wouldn't notice from one week to the next, but dropping in on a drummer I hadn't seen for a couple of months one time, he said "Wow, what happened to your tone? That bass sounded killer the last time you brought it over." Swapped out the batteries and it was night and day. Some of my basses only need new batteries every couple of years. The Status 18v systems really ought to get new batteries every 6 months or so if you play a lot.
And remember, whenever the cable is plugged into the jack, the batteries are being drained. Unplug the bass when not in use.
So I put new batteries in and it's a little better so I think maybe I'm just hearing - as was mentioned - how a Status sounds. I'm thinking maybe I might replace the electronics to be honest. I'm going to take it over to a friend's house today (a drummer) and jam with him and get his thoughts.
Yup, give 'er a listen in a band mix setting, since that's what really counts at the end of the day. If you do want to replace the electronics, perhaps giving Rob an email and asking for some input would be a good idea. Good luck!
I agree 100% !!! A bass, amp, etc, always sounds good by itself, and when you play in a band situation, it's completely different. You probably know this already, so we're just saying this for those who are reading this who may not be familiar with the idea of it.
The typical Status pickups are humbuckers, which means they'll be less bright as well as less noisy than Jazz-style single-poles, if that's what you're used to. But to me they sound a lot like EMGs - not particularly hyped at the high and low end, but present full-spectrum. I get lots of high partials and a great "piano" tone with new round-wounds. What sort of strings are on that Empathy?

I love that you found the Felix sticker that was in *exactly* the right format to fit there. I normally dislike stickers but that design on that bass and that bass being your bass is perfect.

If I remember correctly - there was some type of auction. And Dave Schools from Wide Spread Panic was lucky enough to obtain one of John's basses.
