Just picked this up this week - not a whole Status. But a nice Fender MIJ Precision body with a Status replacement J neck.

May I have a number?

Lenny! Looks like we're two peas in a pod! Just got this back from my good friend Dave Taylor (D. Taylor Basses) who loaded up this neck and installed it for me.

Lobster - your killing me, I really wanted a fretless status neck but had this deal so went with the fretted.

Hey do you still have that other bass you made with the graphite neck I wanted.

Yeah my other status neck is still on my D Taylor Strat Bass... that may be due for some upgrades or mods soon hahaha

I'd like to order my own Status bass sooner than later. I apologize if it's been covered before, but what's the current situation with an individual ordering a bass from the U.K. and the import/export duties or taxes that may required?

That bass is sweet looking. Like a Steinberger, single cut (Is the the right term ?) hybrid.

I have a question about the Status fingerboard. I have a 1991 StingRay with PF fingerboard that was PLEKked just under 4 years ago but that is now showing signs of wear in one spot. It is not visible but is more than audible. I am thinking of replacing the neck with a Status rather than going back for another PLEK job as I suspect the fingerboard will last a little longer.

In the attached mp3, I just gliss slowly, starting with a mp dynamic, on each string from the lowest note to the top of the fingerboard, so F->Db on E, Bb->Gb on A, Eb->B on D and Ab->E on G. At around 14.5s you can hear the wear causing a nasty buzz as I move through the F on the D string. But you can also hear how consistent all the other notes are.

My question is how do you think the Status fingerboard compares, in terms of consistency, playability and general flatness? Do you think it would need further work to get to that standard or is it there from the factory?

(From 26s on it is just running over the F on D)

Assuming you live in the US, it goes a bit like this (speaking personally based on my experiences buying my current Status bass last year): You pay the final invoice to Status Graphite, they then ship it out insured via FedEx. FedEx delivers the bass to your address *after* you complete and return the 5106 and TSCA forms to the FedEx Customs Broker. FedEx will also provide the US import duty form for you to pay to Uncle Sam; your state government may or may not ever find out about the purchase and send you an online out-of-state sales tax bill. I went ahead and just declared it on my Illinois state income taxes and paid the assessed tax. Hope this helps.

The fingerboard on the status neck I got is perfect, no dead spots or buzzing. Didn't require any work to get just right. I'm running with rounds too on this neck, plays great

First of all, I love your avatar - awesome TB inside joke.

I've had 3 Status basses built and shipped to the US, the most recent being delivered this January. Their payment system is archaic, but it works, and Rob and Dawn are legit. The good news is that you get to pay the "no VAT" price. The bad news is that you will owe a US import duty - though that's usually less than the VAT would be. My first two purchases went very simply and smoothly - I ordered, I paid a deposit, they finished the bass, I paid the rest, it was delivered, and FedEx sent ma a bill for the import duty. No other forms to fill out. But for the most recent purchase, FedEx had it held up by customs until I provided a form 5106. According to the guy at FedEx, it's semi-random how often they insist on it.

Thanks - did you just email the 5106? Are they online? Just morbidly curious.

One thing I would like to mention (unless it has already been addressed )
When I've purchased status necks (not basses) I've only had to pay straight FedEx overnight shipping to USA. No duty, tax,VAT etc.
Probably because of the value I suspect?
Just throwing it out there

also if possible, I recommend maybe getting Dawn on the phone to place your order. The last two times I ordered through their system, my credit card was compromised and I needed to close it out and get a new card.
I only mentioned this because it happened within a couple days of using it with status (I don't really use it for anything else)

I know tber @randyplaysbass was the US distributor for Status, at least as of a few years ago. He may be able to help or just take care of everything for you on this end.
