That's just it, I don't like the should in that sentence. I would like to have more watts for clean, and probably run a bass muff in front. Guess I just gotta grab a bass and test this stuff out!

Fender 300 PRO can be had for around $800 too. That will definitely be loud enough. I liked the sound of the fender more than the Mesa. I'm sure you could also find a user SVT CL or SVT-2 for that price.
If you really want to spend more then there are lots of options.

also... the Sunn 1200s, its basically the same amp without the tube power section and is screamingly good tone wise!!! I take it when I want the sound of the 300pro without the backache.

My buddy just picked up a fender 300ps for $500 locally and its sounded huge and they go for around that
$500????!!!!! that was a total STEAL!!! They usually go for $750-1100 used in good shape with good tube-age..... but $500????!!!! my god how can you pass that up?

Great amps as long as you can lug around multiple cabs. The outputs are all wired separately, so if you're using 1 cab you will get about 120 watts, with a cab connected to each output you will get the full 300+ watts.
I got mine(300t) used for under $500...back before I worked at GC...family running GC stores = win.
