The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Have you tried swapping tube brands yet to see if it changes things? I'm curious as to how much of a difference it can make. This is foreign territory for me as I'm gonna be coming from using an Atomic bass box with IR's and sometimes a Darkglass A/O pre/di. I'm trying to find something that's just a little warmer/fuller than I can get out of my current setup.
As someone who has rolled quite a bunch of tubes in quite a bunch of gear... Don't expect much of a difference from different brands of the same tube. If heard side by side, you can typically hear a minor difference but if forced to choose blindly, I'd be willing to bet the majority of us would be shooting blind.

Thanks for the info! Very much appreciated!

Unfortunately I wasn't able to fit one in, it's packed pretty tight with the addition of the tonestack, and as evidenced previously, there isn't enough room on the face to put too many controls in.
Will it still have a separate volume control for the XLR and 1/4", this DI really intrigues me, as I've been using the Regal DI Block on my HX stomp, why not replace that with something closer to the real thing.

I have neither tried Noble, Nobelium or Capo, nor do I desire 'em. The Dreamcatcher remains the prime pinnacle of preamps for my ears/fingers, and the only way I could make it better would be by adding an HPF. Speaking of which, I also have and love a Detective that I would swap for a Dreamcatcher if there's a willing partner out there.

I had wondered if Nathan would do a DI-included version of the Dreamcatcher or UA for those that didn't want to have an additional DI (Finally or other) after it, but I'm sure he has enough on his mind to think about before he even looks at something like that...

Neptunium will still have a separate volume control for the XLR and 1/4", no reason for me not to do that.

So my More arrived today (thanks UK customs for the needlessly long delay) love how it sounds, tried it straight into my headphone amp and the bass just sounds fatter and more alive, going to try it out with my amp over the weekend but very happy with it.
I also didn't realise it was a relay style footswitch, just another little plus side to it.
The relay style footswitch is a recent addition that will soon be the norm on everything I make. They last longer, they switch quieter, and they're easier to replace on the offchance one does go bad.

I've considered it. Venus Z is the closest I've got right now, and a UA with a D.I. output would have to be about that size. I may be able to squeeze a D.I. into something like a Dreamcatcher, but it would likely require shuffling some things around.

Also hi everyone, I'm around now. I've had family in town for the last 10 days or so, so I haven't had much time for pedal stuff. It's mostly been a "stay-cation" so I've been at my home, but so have 23 other people.

had a bit of time to play around with my Venus Z since I got it, and I am pretty impressed. Really direct, sharp, modern tone, but with a nice full roundness. I suck at describing tones. All I know is that it lets each of my basses character come through, and has tons of clean gain on tap. I think I would like it better though if it had a footswitch, but for my current use (only pedal in front of a PJB Nanobass for practice), it doesn't much matter. If it were on my main board, I would like the ability to toggle it on and off so I could use the preamp as (yet another) switchable flavor. I like it best with my G&L Tribute L-2000, as it just intensifies an already aggressive sounding bass even more. Good stuff. Around mid July I hope to be able to compare it to a Tronographic Rusty Box, so hopefully someone will find that useful.
Thanks!
B.

23? 10 days? For me, visitors smell like roses for 3 days…..on the morning of day 4 they start smelling more like fish
Yeah I love my extended family and it was great to see everyone, but the last of them will be leaving tomorrow morning and I'm looking forward to it being just me, the missus, and the kids for a bit.

Sushi chef, is there an ETA for the Neptunium? Or will the Secret Society get a heads-up before the drop?
The Secret Society will get a heads-up before the drop. I don't have a specific ETA yet, but the production circuit boards arrived today and the enclosures have been shipped and should be here sometime this week. I'm hoping to start getting units put together this weekend, which will give me an idea of how fast I can out them all together. I'm targeting 50 units for this run unless they disappear super fast, in which case I may be convinced to do some more.

This will be limited run, but I don't do limited runs for the sake of scarcity, just for things that I think are neat but don't necessarily want to keep as a permanent part of the lineup. So I'm not going to be super stingy with the quantity, but I only have parts on order for 50 units at the moment.

The Tronographic Rusty Box is STILL (I know!) on my bucket list.

As is the Venus Z!

Appreciate your future thoughts.

Any idea when you’ll post the full specs?

Maybe when I get the first real unit build up I'll post some good pictures with a detailed spec list. So probably this weekend-ish.
Well I just got notification that the Neptunium enclosures will not be arriving this weekend, they will be arriving today. So maybe those pictures and specs will be earlier than this weekend.
