One thing I notice on the C2CE page is that it very clearly states that the builds are not for beginners. I am glad that is transparent! Is there a place though that [anyone] would point someone who is a beginner but is interested in learning the basics of pedal construction? Searching 'build bass effect pedal' on YouTube just brings up a feed full of videos about how to wire up a pedalboard of pre-built pedals as opposed to literally building a pedal

I will always recommend PedalPCB for beginners. TONS of options, and all very well-designed by a very cool dude (not professionally affiliated but he and I chat every now and then).

Another solid option is MadBean Pedals, I think he has some bass projects but I don't think he has as many. Also great designs though and also a very cool guy (also not affiliated but we also chat every now and then).

EDIT: another great source of info if you have questions is the PedalPCB forum. I'm a big fan of forums in general, and I spend almost as much time over there as I do here.

@Bernin @Sushi Box FX awesome, thanks for asking and answering. I had the same question and was trying to decide if I was stupid enough to just ignore it and try anyway. I'll start with something simpler!

I'm getting ready to jump into this world and explore a setup where my board just drives a power amp. This combo is probably what I'm going to be trying first. I'm coming from an Eden WT550 and the main thing I like is the 5 band semi-parametric EQ. I think the 3 band parametric combined with the baxandall filters should have more than enough flexibility for me. I'm hoping to get a nice bit of warmth on the edge of breakup from the Finally as a base "clean" tone.

Probably a dumb question - I'm assuming if slam the Finally with a boost pedal I can then push it into overdrive territories? I've been playing around with cascading gain stacks into the next, and it's something I'd like to try and retain.

I would love to talk @Sushi Box FX into making an Eden amp in a pedal. My Eden amp does have a tube in it (preamp only), but I'm sure he would direct me to the Venus Z instead.

Wasn't the tube in the WT series a low voltage "glory tube." Or is that urban legend? It's been decades since I was in the same room as an Eden, so I could be misremembering.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. So many ways to shape the tone with the ParaEQ Deluxe into the Finally.

I think the general consensus has been the Finally v2 WBIM with the 12AU7 doesn't overdrive easily, and when it does it's not as pleasant as the higher gain tubes. In my experience when the 12AX7 was in there I'd be around 25% gain on the Finally and could easily overdrive it with a small boost from another pedal. With a 12AT7 I was somewhere between 50-70% gain before breakup, so I'd think it would behave in a similar manner.

Wish I ordered a Finally back when the alternate enclosure colors were available. Would be awesome to have one in a black sparkle finish to match my ParaEQ Deluxe at the end one of my boards

EDIT: I don't recall if the alternate colors and Finally were available at the same time, but a man can dream...

After about a month with the Z I think I agree with whoever said pages ago that it's kind of being slept on. Awesome sounding preamp. I have a little bit of FOMO for the neptunium but I can't see replacing the Venus any time soon.

The CIOKS will support either voltage, but running at 12v will use roughly 25% more current (mA). The tone difference is very minor from my experience, and probably not noticable unless you're using some good headphones.

A couple super quick notes (quick because it's 3AM and I'm tired):

• The new versions of Black Eye II and JC Emerald are available for order. I only have one of each right now, mostly because it's 3AM, but I have parts on hand to build a lot more so I plan to build more soon but I've also opened up backordering.
• All existing backorders have now shipped, all of which were Finally v2. I have several (8 to be exact) more Finally v2 units on the bench that are a few minutes each away from completion, but as mentioned, it's 3AM. I'll get them finished up tomorrow and list them as in stock, assuming I don't get 8 backorders before I have the chance (it's happened before).
• I've decided this is going to be the last batch I do of Neptunium. I'm thrilled that people are enjoying it enough to keep asking for it, but at the end of the day I'd rather focus on my original designs.

As someone who has been using an Origin Effects Super Vintage as my cab sim pedal last in my chain, do these tube preamps pretty much do the same thing, but without the actual cab sim “filter” on them? I’m a big fan of the tube grit, which is why I never use the cab sims on my Darkglass pedals.

I’m interested in trying something that’s not the Bass Rig and don’t know where to start with the Sushi Box pedals.

I usually run ampless at gigs, so I’m probably looking at either the Finally v2 or Neptunium for the DI. Does it even make sense to swap out the BassRig for an actual tube DI?

My chain currently is Tuner -> DG X Ultra -> DG B7K -> BassRig SV.

Well, in terms of where to start with Sushi, do you like the Ampeg sound of the SV? If so, I'd recommend getting the Slampegg, since it's based on the Ampeg topology. Unless the intent is that you want this to be a replacement for the DI capabilities of the SV, in which case I'd recommend the Finally. And, I'd probably recommend putting a 12AX7 tube in the Finally, which is what the original models shipped with, as opposed to the 12AU7 that they currently ship with. If the idea is for some tube grit; the AU7 is hard to distort, and not particularly pleasing sonically, if you can actually manage it. Neptunium also isn't going to distort or break up; it's nothing but clean tube tone.

That’s helpful. Yes, basically I’m trying to replace it as a tube DI.
