The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

I bought a 12V 17A power supply from Tayda that I am going to check out for pedals, if it works then I should have 200 watts available to me.
For a lousy $7 I had to throw one into my last order for testing, I think the stomp box will cost more to fit it into.
I think I also got a dozen 7809 regulators also so I can run 9V from several outputs.

So I have a mini tube Slampegg on my pedal board, that I'm currently trying to power with a battery bank. The pedals flash for about 5 seconds at first, then everything stabilizes. Do you think this is dangerous for either the pedals or my Cioks 4 power supply?

I see here you recommend the 1Spot 9V adapter that does 1700mA at 9V. Do you think that'd fix my issues? Other than the Slampegg (which I guess requires 600mA?), the rest of my pedals combined work out to 101mA. The Cioks 4 should put out 660mA at 9v max at each of the four outlets.

That Slampegg is the perfect outboard preamp sound I've been looking for, so I'm hoping to make this work!
That sounds normal for my studio board that has a Slampegg Bee mini tube, Particle Accelerator mini tube, Southampton Ictineo and a Finally v1 powered by a 1Spot on a daisy chain that takes at least 10 seconds to stabilize but is fine after a minute of warm up. I occasionally run a pedal or two in addition off that same chain without issue. That board has been used almost daily for a couple of years and sounds great.

Good to know. Sounds like I can pick up a 1Spot 9 volt wall adapter and assume it will work fine for me. I like using battery power for convenience at rehearsal, but relying exclusively on batteries makes me a bit nervous on a gig.
 
Is the EUNA really worth the space on the board? Does it anything better than let's say another good buffer like a Caveman Audio Pre or a Broughton BBA?
I had it slotted underneath this board. I don’t have a ton of experience with different types of buffers unfortunately. I will say though that whenever the switch managed to get pushed enough to shut it off, I could tell! Just seemed to open up the sound in a very pleasing way, and though it is expensive and big (especially for a buffer) — I don’t regret getting it.

When I downsize to the smaller board, I’m really thinking it may not make it unless I can cram it underneath again — I’d love it if it could be smaller without a switch!

I have a minor issue with my finally v2 : the transformer is dangling. It seems that it’s glued to the case, and the glue failed. It was like that when I received it (rough shipping I guess). I pressed the transformer firmly and everything reverted to normal for few weeks. but guess what ? It’s dangling again.

So I need a permanent fix : I don’t want the thin conductive wires to break. But damn! that’s so crowded in there that I didn’t managed to remove the transformer from the case. And I don’t want to break anything. And shipping from France round trip for such a minor annoyance is not worth the time and effort.

So I’ve put some foam between the transformer and the lid to maintain the transformer pressed against the case. I’ve checked the foam with the multimeter and it seems it’s not conductive, but just in case : is that a good solution ?

That is absolutely a good solution and is in fact something I've been considering as a "back up" to the adhesive that holds the transformer in. I used to use a stronger adhesive to make sure it stayed, but I was running into the problem that I then couldn't remove the transformer when I needed to service the pedal.

Have you considered using automotive double sided tape ?
It is usually about 1mm thick and sticks really good, at least the good stuff does.
It is meant to last a long time and the stuff I used came from a German car company, it was really good but it was either a Merc or BMW stuff I used.
 
The first tape I used to attach the Electronic Speed Control (ESC) to the tray on my RC Buggy failed the first time at the track - those "impacts" (crashes) can create a lot of "g"s!... I did some research and decided to put a strip of this on each long edge of the ESC and there hasn't been a failure, since:

That stuff is very strong, and I knew that was part of it, so see how small of a piece you can get away with - just enough to hold it in place, but not too much to be able to get it off? There should be something out there that provides enough strength to hold it on, but not so much that it can't be removed. This "Gorilla Putty" might be worth a try:

I think VHB tape was used to mount my dash cam in my car. The trick to getting that off was to using a piece of dental floss - pulled between the camera and the window it basically ran through the middle and tore the tape apart. Then you can just simply peel the tape off.

I've not see the inside of a Finally to know if that is a workable solution.

Thx for a super useful forum with lots of good advice. I'm a bass player that is looking to buy my first Sushiboxfx pedal. I need a preamp for my small bass board. I have a pretty good Radial JDI so the pedal does not need to have a DI. I have heard loads of good things about the Underground Accelerator (though I'm a bit confused about how the 3-band tone stack works on it - the YT video from Jake Serek that Nathan links to makes it seem kind of weird to operate?). But there is also the Slampegg Bee Pre and the Elementary? I'm having a hard time finding good quality sound samples to compare the sound of these.
I play CCM at church and also a bit of rock in a local band. I tend to like to old school round tubey bottom end of an Alembic F-2B which kind of points to the UA. And I wouldn't mind if the pedal could do just a tiny bit of "edge of breakup" OD. I don't normally go all in on crazy drive for any of the projects that I play in. I have a Darkglass VMT as well I could use to ad a bit more gain on demand? I'm just looking for that sweet basic tone with just a bit of tube warmth and roundness.
Sorry for rambling - I'm just trying to point you guys in the right direction for giving me advice. What would you guys recommend me getting from Nathan? And do you have any usable sound clips to compare the sound of the different preamps?
I realize that this type of question has probably been asked many times before - and I'm sorry about that. But this thread has just become so long and filled with different versions of pedals with different names - so I have kind of given up on finding the answer myself.

From your description of what you're looking for it sounds like the Underground Accelerator would be perfect for your use case. It will give you the tube warmth & can be dialed to run from fully clean to edge-of-breakup/mild grit to full blown drive.

The EQ isn't too difficult to figure out. Mids are cut only and Bass & Treble are boost only. So, a flat EQ is Bass/Treble fully Counter Clockwise and Mids fully Clockwise.
