The only smallish pedals I’ve found that have that are Ampeg pre pedal (no variable mids) and Broughton SV-Pre. But, both introduce noise I don’t like. Others like SGT too big. Not worried about the dirt, just the eq options/voicing. If that was in a tube preamp pedal, I’m in. Can’t remember if the possible SBVT II will be like that.

I don't have the deep/bright switches, but SBVT II does have the variable mids frequency. I upped it from 5 choices like the original to 8 choices because it wasn't hard to do and I already had 8-way switches on hand.

SBVT II is almost done, but anytime a design hits a snag it gets moved back in the queue so I can keep things moving. SBVT II was where I wanted tonally, but I wanted to add the buffered 1/4" output like I have on Grand Slampegg. I literally copy/pasted it from the GS design, and when I got the boards in I have zero output signal. So I'm sure there's just something I missed in the implementation and I will get it figured out, but I don't have an exact timeframe for release.

A similar thing happened with Single Slice, which is why you haven't heard anything about that recently. Revised boards for that one have been ordered and shipped yesterday, I'm optimistic that this will be the final one. I beat my goal of a Grand Slampegg release before Thanksgiving, now I'm hoping to get Single Slice before Christmas.

@Sushi Box FX I have a UA from winter 2024. It has the increased low end change. Love it! Best yet!

When the last HW run was made - not the run with the wood face and extra large housing. Did that run also have the increased low end ? What time period was that ?

I have 11 units (decided to put one more together) that will be completed tonight. Grand Slampegg is not a limited run, it's a new edition to the catalogue and I plan to continue making it for a considerable amount of time.

If you're talking about what I think you are, the increased low-end response on the first stage of Underground Accelerator became a permanent addition pretty early on, every Underground Accelerator I've built for quite a while has had it.

Oh, I should make a quick video showing the tube swap process for Grand Slampegg. It's a little different, but in my opinion it's more elegant.

Ah don't say that! With all of the pedals of yours I have I'm always really happy with the sound, and then you go and mention that a particular tube sounds interesting and I have to go and try.
Now you've made a process that I'm going to be curious to try out, on a pedal that I'm almost certain I won't need to do any kind of tube swapping in, but am going to have to try out just to see.

Which would you all recommend? The GrandSlam or the VenusZ? Playing active basses(Warwick,Sandberg,Alembic) in country/classic rock band. I'm running ampless with an Atomic Bass Box right now and it does ok... but, it just feels like it's missing something. Which route would you go? I have a GK MB212ii for when I do need an amp so I'm sorta leaning Venus Z.

Well, the Venus will definitely hew closer to what you are familiar with in terms of the controls and features on the GK. The GS would be a pretty different flavour; as advertised, much more in line with an Ampeg B-15 and its feature set. The only real thing they have in common from a sonic perspective is they aren't capable of overdriving on their own; they are clean machines! You'd need help from a dirt box of some sort if that's what you want (or maybe just boosting the crap out of your active circuits LOL).

You can't really go wrong either way, it's more a matter of what you prefer personally. For me, that'd be the Grand Slampegg between these two options, but that's because I've never personally gotten on with GK stuff (which probably puts me firmly in the minority of other bassists).

Never tried either, but unless you're looking for a clean B-15, I'd lean Venus?...
