SWR Interstellar Overdrive has a built-in 5W tube power amp and dummy load in a 1U rack mount preamp. Maybe smaller (well, it's shorter but wider), but probably not cheaper now that they've reached vintage collector status.

I'm glad I got mine a while ago. I really like the UA in front of it. That, into a small solid-state amp and a couple of refurbished stereo speakers, has been my living room practice rig recently.

Ashdown also has (or had) the LB30n.2, which is 30W with a dummy load and speaker emulation. I heard a bass player using one of those on an outdoor stage with good PA (and a competent mix, no woofy subwoofers!) and it sounded amazing.

I also have the lb30n.2. It’s great but none of these are in the same ballpark size or cost as something that will fit on a pedalboard. If you want that you have to commit to carrying a lunchbox around (though you could also use it to warm up your lunch).

I will let you know if I ever need the neptunium buffered, I really appreciate it, as I some times use a QSC K12.2 in conjunction with my IEM’s.

The original finally still sounds great!

Thanks. It is this. Amazon.com
No longer available, I bought it back in 2021. It’s the same size as a nano +, I added larger feet and cut them in half on the side with the Broughton HPF. Made custom cables and it fit like a dream.

I have to say, don’t know if it’s fresh ears or what, but I’m liking this boards tone better than my main gig rig board. Uhoh.

Psychoacoustics....ear fatigue.....after a while the cool side of the pillow always feels good....and this phenomenon keeps us chasing our tonal tails😊. It's good therapy to listen to the full band mix, in which the little details we obsess over are pretty much meaningless.

Amen, listening to the mix from our monitor engineer after shows is always eye opening! "Yup, definitely sounds like a bass!"

These might be two most insightful sentences I've read on the Internet all month. Next time I'm asking myself "why aren't I happy with this?" I'm coming back to this.

The next pedal is going to be the last one I need though. Seriously this time. Just one more pedal, then I'll be satisfied with my tone. I thought I was good, but I just need one more.

LOL. My approach to this is rotation. After years of compulsive flipping, it's why I now have a small assortment of gear. I cycle through and enjoy/explore/ rediscover pieces without trying to convince myself I have found "it". Occasionally 1 is flipped and another acquired, and that's OK ;). It's no longer a quest for some mythical tone, because that's a mercurial, ever changing target.

Same!👆 I like to add a step in between everything where I bypass every pedal and compulsively analyze the relationship between my tone knobs and pickup switches. :roflmao:

Just pulled the trigger on a Grandslampegg, (partly as I promised myself one a birthday present this month, and my dad passed away last night, him also having been a bass player and a musician seemed appropriate) my rig will be completed once it get this pedal.
