Pin 1 is signal ground. Pins 2 and 3 carry a balanced signal. When one goes positive, the other goes negative the same amount. It's not a "temporal" signal shift, it's just a polarity inversion. Swapping the wires on 2 and 3 at one end of the cable inverts it, reversing the inversion in the pedal.

I'm sure you can buy an adapter that does the same thing, but if you already have the cable and a soldering iron.... Of course, I won't discourage you from buying a More (which also inverts the signal) instead to put in front of your pedal to compensate

The adapters are cheap; so, I have one on the way for trial before getting into the cable contacts. I do have a short 3 ft cable specifically for this connection. So, no issue with swapping 2 & 3. Will report back.

P.S. The More does look interesting. Sadly, no more room at the Inn.

Spent about 30 minutes with the Tarantula tonight - my goodness!!! I’m glad I didn’t let this pass me by. This thing has what seems like 47 metric tons of gain. Sounded great with both passive and active basses and can definitely get waaaaay out there. I can see how guitar players would really dig this too.

Can I ask how you're using the Stomp in conjunction with the UA? Is the HX just for effects? Is the UA primarily for EQ/tone shaping?

We've switched to IEMs, and have been running a Stomp with a separate Empress compressor. I was only really using the Stomp as a DI (Noble model) and headphone amp, but was lucky enough to pick up a Finally V2 in hopes of slimming things down. Really would have preferred a Venus (or PMLE) to have some additional shaping/EQ options, but being in Canada the dollar exchange and taxes make it tough on the wallet at the moment. Wondering if I can get by without the Stomp, or if I'll need some tone shaping (either keep the Stomp, swap if for an EQ, or blow it all up and sell stuff to snag a Venus). Didn't ditch the Stomp for a Venus as I wanted to keep it as an audio interface.

So I am IEM as well. I use the UA in the effects loop of the stomp, I can then place it anywhere in the signal chain, it is used for subtle tube grind. Being able to place it any where virtually in the stomp gives me grater tonal control too.

I run my stomp as a stage rig. The only effect I have in use are a couple of drives and a chorus, I run an SVT amp sim with a 810 IR.

The stomp is one of the greatest gear purchases that I have ever made, it has all the tone shaping capabilities you will ever need, it literally can replace everything I already have, but I like my tubes and compressor metering. Thats just me. YMMV

Personally I would keep the stomp as the heart of my board with an IEM application.

Somehow I am repeatedly surprised by how important gear combinations can be. It's a lesson I have relearned too many times to count. Last night I was packing up some gear for an overnight jam/hang tonight/tomorrow & decided to break out my Fender J, which has been lonely for a while due to my year long Stingray muse. I realized I had never tried the J through my Elementary. With the J neck pup solo'ed, tone rolled back a tad/fresh rounds & the Elementary set with bass at 10:00, mids @ 12:00, treble & zero ... pushed into light grind, I get a sweet, warm tone that's well-defined & easy to hear in a mix. My J has never sounded this good. And to my surprise, I don't need to actively boost any mids on my amp. The 'ray and my UA/ Dreamcatcher will now get some rest.

I love my Jazz bass and Elementary. I use both pickups on full, dial in a little more bass than you and have the treble anywhere between 9:00 and noon. It seems like a lot of treble according to the TSC, but I don’t hear it that way. I find it adds clarity, but none of the harshness I typically associate with a lot of treble boost.

Has there only been one version of the Neptunium or is there a v2 with a buffered 1/4 out? Got mine in 2024 when it was first released but someone mentioned a 2025 batch that had a buffered 1/4 out. Not sure if I have an old version...?..

I did it with my Neptunium when I first got it. The pedal did NOT like it. Really messed with the 1/4 output and it got really distorted and fuzzy. In a bad way.

Ashdown has the CTM-15 with an internal load so you can xlr out to a power amp etc. I don’t think you could make a real tube power stage too much smaller than that (or much cheaper for that matter). I fact, I almost never run it alone.

I received an email about the same time as your post asking the same thing, but I can post the answer here in case anyone else is wondering:

Neptunium has always had a preamp-affected 1/4" output, but the original has a 1/4" signal that is just split off from the XLR signal and is not buffered. The new version has a buffer in between the XLR signal and the 1/4" output so neither output affects the other.

I did, I ordered 50 boards (enough for every previous version Neptunium) and completely forgot to tell everyone.

So if you have a Neptunium from the 2024 run and would like a buffer added to the 1/4" output, let me know. Obviously if you're only using one output then you won't notice any difference in performance, but if you're one of the people that uses both at the same time then it's nice to have.

Thank you Nathan, you are too good to be true. As of right now my Neptunium is in its box in my closet. I had some other pedals laying around and decided to make a second board out of them. While looking on CL I found a Boss BC X1 for $75! Then when I went to go to the gas station I found $20 on the ground. lol

Here is the board I threw together with some killer looking square plug 500’s.

I will let you know if I ever need the neptunium buffered, I really appreciate it, as I some times use a QSC K12.2 in conjunction with my IEM’s.

The original finally still sounds great!
