The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

It'd be great if some of you well to do pedal hounds would pony up for the current Edison from Night Owl [ 7 on the site currently ] and then nab a " Westinghouse " when they arrive . Those of us with less moolah to spend will appreciate the eventual comparisons so we can parse our dollars as appropriately , as possible - when the time comes ..... Kelly

I already have an Edison waiting to compare :D

I am definitely very interested in the eventual official announcement of the Westinghouse so I can learn some more about it… And I know there’s some other things up Senior Sushi’s sleeves...
I am also super excited about Westinghouse. I didn't go super crazy changing things, so you should still be able to get EXACTLY the same sound as the original, but I'm well aware that people like options, so there should be a little bit of room to play with it if you want to go beyond Edison tones.

I thought about keeping my Edison until I could play them side by side, but then I realized how many other people already have an Edison that could do that for me :P

I already have an Edison waiting to compare :D
Case in point ;)

What circuit is the Edison modeled after? I can't really find many samples of it being used for bass and what I have heard isn't giving me GAS.
From my understanding it's a completely original circuit, looking at the schematic doesn't remind me of anything I've really seen. Doesn't bear any similarity to any amplifier preamp that I'm aware of.

Very cool - it bites to be poverty struck to the point that 200$ makes a difference in one's life but that's the reality for me hence the questions and concerns as to how to spend those few available dollars as well as possible . I'm psyched that Senor Sushi is making his version and wish to hell that I could do my own comparison but that won't be happening this year . I look forward to the Westinghouse sound clips and whatever comparisons you guys can make when it becomes a reality .... Kelly

Truthfully I needed a clean boost, and purely loved the Edison look/color scheme I found (used on a good deal) enough to buy it as my clean boost.

The Amber versions on Reverb right now? Not enough to draw me in.

But I totally agree: listening-wise, it never drew me in purely on that. I don't hear/feel enough character from the Edison to even attribute it to the pedal. As a clean boost though, it's awesome.

Honestly I don't think you'll be missing much. Edison is cool, but I wouldn't call it worthy to own unless you wanted it for astetics (like I did).

FWIW - The Night Owl industries site has a video done exclusively of the Edison used on bass . It is a subtle thing to be sure but definitely to my ears has a noticeable fattening effect on the tone - plus they look really cool but that is again - in my opinion .... Kelly
Yeah, and it sure could be something else on my side hiding the difference; cables, rig/headphones, bass pickups/preamp, my set tone controls, horrible technique, etc.

Reminds me of the LB2020. Another utility box that is supposed to be magic, and does zero for me. I even opened it up to make sure there was actually something in it :roflmao: that said, I pre-ordered the LB2020S to see if it does anything :hyper:

I run an Edison last in chain. I miss it when it's off. It's subtle, but I would say it adds a thickness that's more than what could be replicated with an eq. I had an LBA2020 and that effect I felt I could replicate with a little treble reduction. I didn't like it at all. I like what the Edison does

I'm only keeping my LB2020 to a/b it against the LB2020S and see if I sell both. I was about to sell it when they announced the S.
Either way I'm happy I tried it/them, otherwise I'd always be curious.

Should I email you? I’d like to do that if parts are available. If they aren’t, no worries at all, I’ll take the LU as is.
Yup, if that's what you want shoot me an email. The worst that could happen is I'll run out of parts and you'll get a stock LU, but I'm pretty sure I have enough for a handful of PA-tonestack LU. I know I have enough capacitors, the only thing I'm not positive about it pots, I don't get them wholesale (yet) so I have trouble keeping as big of a supply on hand as I'd like to.

Also before I forget, assuming my parts orders arrive on time (one is already here but another is already late) I have a handful of pedals I'm hoping to get listed in the In-Stock Shop this weekend. I promise I'll give more notice this time instead of randomly dropping them at midnight on a tuesday :P but I won't know when I can have them ready until my parts show up. I'll get pictures when knobs show up, but I will have the following:
  • Particle Accelerator X prototype, Rainbow's End finish w/ UV print, silver knobs
  • Slampegg Bee Pre X prototype (no hi/lo switches), matte black finish w/ red UV print, black knobs
  • Sunnday Drive "whoops" model (no boost, only the drive channel) side jacks, illusion candy apple sugar finish w/ UV print, not sure what color knobs yet
  • Particle Accelerator side jacks, chameleon sapphire teal finish w/ laser engraving, not sure what color knobs yet
  • Lab Rat top jacks w/ clipping diode selector switch, violet sparkle finish w/ laser engraving, not sure what color knobs yet
There are a couple more I'm on the fence about, we'll see if they end up going.

Just ordered an Edison today.

Interesting. I've always thought about an Edison to run at the front of my chain as a tone sweetner/boost that I could use to compensate for the differences in output among my basses so I don't have to go through and adjust effects per bass... set those and forget them, just adjust the Edison. Still might be worth it, because I do enjoy the subtle difference in Hondo's demo.

Darnit I'm tempted. I like the look of the Amber ones... there's something about the combo of the amber with that case that looks a little more steampunk to me than the green/aluminum. Will have to think about it and see if I can justify the $.
