Considering all the 'new' features being requested, doesn't surprise me on the size upgrade.

I'd say go for the XX, but maybe keep your circuit designed in such a way in the future you could cut the extras needed to fit it into a 1590b as a different model if possible. I don't care about boost or DI myself, just the gain indicator really.

I'm assuming you mean 1590BB, but there's unfortunately no good way to do that. A 1590BB version would be a complete tear-up and start from scratch. After I finish the XX layout I'll go back to the 1590BB and see how much I could fit in there.

Definitely go for the XX with everything.

You could do the XX loaded with everything and offer a BB as a bare bones pedal down the line if you see there’s a demand for it.

For what it’s worth I’m also firmly in camp prefer-smaller-enclosure-without-DI-or-Boost.

Also I ended up buying that black Ambassador on reverb a couple days ago - $100 for a tube overdrive pedal was too good to pass up. I’ve never tried the Matchless Hotbox pedal though, allegedly its similarly voiced to a Vox AC30 - how true is that in your experience @Sushi Box FX? Is it close to a Vox sound or is it more of its own thing? Also do you have any idea what the current draw is on it, is it any different than your other pedals or do they all have about the same draw (obviously with the understanding that the draw increases with additional tubes).

I would say a little bit of both. The first Matchless amps were just modded Vox amps, and they've kept the general Vox "shimmer" flavor, but they do kind of make it their own. Looking at the schematics for the Hotbox and the AC30 Top Boost, I see a lot of similarities.

And duly noted about the compressor size. Again the smaller one wouldn't be able to fit a gain reduction indicator with the LED bar I'm using for the XX version, but I should still be able to do a single LED for compression indicator I think. Better than nothing I guess?

I think that’d be a fair compromise if you end up releasing two different versions. The LED bar is the ONE feature that might make me pause to consider a larger enclosure, but ultimately board space is most important for me and Ive gotten by fine with my Cali which doesn’t have a gain reduction bar so I’d probably do one with a smaller enclosure if both were options.

Oh and in case anyone was wondering where the October batch is at, all the boards have been soldered up and all the boxes have been milled now. Just need to get to powdercoating (takes quite a bit of motivation ) and engraving then I can start turning these into pedals.

Oh and you'll notice one of them is missing, that one had a freak accident and is finished already and on its way to its new home.

More like time to convince my wife our 6 year old is old enough to work a powdercoating gun.

Speaking of which she designed another pedal over the weekend, "The Old Ant." I think the success of Robot Butterfly was too much for her, now it feels like she's forcing it

Nonono, with all the features. I did a mock-up design for you. Don't worry, the back 2 sides are still open for the 1/4" in/out and 12v in jacks:

Yup, 17/24 I'm looking at a wholesale dealer for the larger enclosures, and if I can get a deal on them I'll probably make that the standard and stop chargin extra for it.

Ah, there we go. I had misunderstood. Looks like if I use a smaller knob I should still be able to fit all 5 controls in there too, so that's a win. With the box being a square it's also a win because any jack is a top jack, just turn the pedal
