The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Looking good but definitely needs more sushi… No worries though one more order in probably snag an April spot soon. Then will have to have a preamp shoot out to figure out what stays on the board And what stays in the studio. At this point I think it’s pretty safe to say that the London underground has earned a spot…

Spots are getting expensive...

Sorry I've been away for a bit, I have the day off work so I'm working on some recordings for my band :D

So question… Assuming the MOD goes well will this be a permanent addition/option to the Watson or will you change the volume knob to go to five spinal tap style as mentioned LOL
I haven't decided yet. If I decide that going to 5 is still enough output to drive a power amp then I may make it a permanent thing, otherwise I'll figure out some convenient way to switch back and forth.

Hot toob shot!

So this thing running at 9v into my CabZone LE sounds freaking awesome!!! Nathan, wow, just wow.

The addition of the gain makes it amazing. I’m A/Bing versus my Super Stack and the gain is in my opinion all the difference in the world.

Outstanding!
I'm glad you like it :) The PA is really what helped me get attention, and while it isn't the most advanced circuit I have I never expect to stop making it (in some form or another; PAX has outsold regular PA since january).
I like the Sunnday Drive so far.
I’ve never had a preamp with a presence control. @Sushi Box FX can you speak about the tone stack? I feel like everything is interactive with the presence knob?

Thanks!
So the reason playing with the presence control has such an effect on the tonestack is because it probably shouldn't have a presence control. The actual Sunn Model T has a presence control, but it's negative feedback from the power amp, and the most common way I see that adapted in pedals is basically adding another tone cut at the end of the tonestack, so that's what I did. I find that he tonestack has the most effect when presence is turned way up, so in Sunnday Drive X I actually removed the presence control, so the tonestack should be a lot more responsive.

How's the new empress? And is that the bass version?
It’s the bass version. I had the previous (old) version which I liked very much, this one is even better, much better - HPF side chain, top jacks, smaller form factor, leds metering improved (which is something!). Even the tone selector work great for me. Head to Scubaduba’s thread and website for more...
Just a quick add on, since getting the Bass Comp, I sold a Cali76cb and a PDRV. Both very well regarded comps, and don’t miss either one. And it gives my LA-1A the nervous giggles but that one is staying too.

The Bass Comp is a top notch piece of gear. It is feature packed and sounds fantastic. That being said, mine is on its way back to Empress for a refund. They are redesigning/modding the circuit so the clicking noise is completely eliminated. They said it should be released in a few months.

Speaking of compressors... I'm excited to receive my Deep Dish. I just hope it fits on my board!

Taking its place at the head of the table....

Early impressions: the voicing of the EQ was clearly made to order for P basses. I just ran it around the course with flats & rounds, and it can make either one go from silky to snarly, but snarly in a smoothly responsive way. That might be the extra compression factor of the microtube, if I'm learning anything (and hearing more clearly on the updated website demos what's going on).

On a bass with active EMG pickups, the Bright switch absolutely does kick in extra top end, and a different flavor from the Ultra Hi. I haven't plugged in the 6-string yet, but that's next.

And the Ultra Lo is so smooth as to feel almost cabsim-like. I was surprised at the large volume drop (gain drop? seems to reduce signal hitting the tube), but since the Volume headroom is tamer than some, I can quickly grab it and not fear causing earthquakes. It's not something I'd often switch on the fly, anyway.

Update: the Ultra Lo switch on the Slampegg can tame even the ungodly aggression of Nordstrand Big Singles on my 6er. Because it's a fairly low-output bass, I can actually dime the gain and dial in Treble to offset to taste, and the result is huge, thick, approaching-the-edge-but-still-clean goodness that feels scooped, but as far as I can tell, still has mix-friendly mids presence.

I'm taking this board to my next jam rehearsal thingy with a newly formed group of very awesome musicians, so the mix test will be done there.

I also have to think about where the Linden is going, as these two EQ circuits are much closer than the Linden & Particle Accelerator. Having that boost to drive the tube is awesome, but I can also do that with the Hyper Luminal, or maybe even just fit an MBD-2 or something in place....

Thanks for that. It sounds like I should start with Presence pretty high, it's just a high cut at the end of the circuit.

The bass knob doesn't seem to do much, maybe a little cut clockwise. The high knob definitely cuts highs and volume clockwise. Seems counterintuitive to me. Does it sound correct to you? I guess it's just a dance between all the knobs, I've never experienced interaction like this.

There's definitely cool sounds in there. Just want to be sure it's working as intended.
