Timely post as I'm looking to do this too with a P Bass that came with SD Quarter Pounders, which are not bad, but I want more vintage.

Any idea how the https://www.amazon.com/Fender-Pure-Vintage-Precision-Pickup/dp/B00I3XGD16/ compares with the Fender Vintage Reissue?

i haven't tried that one yet so i wouldn't know. for me, the problem is that most companies keep chasing the original vintage p bass pickup tone, but duncan achieved it years ago with his SPB-1 (and i prefer it over his antiquity). the fender vintage reissue is a tiny bit brighter but is still very nice.

I haven't used the '63 pickups, but I listened to a lot of demos of them and decided I liked the '62 "Original" pickups more. YMMV

Is that from an EBay seller? I’ve had my eyes on a similar body sold by a woodworker on EBay for a reasonable price.

Yup, that's how I found him. One-Eyed Jack Custom is the name. He has listings of ready to go bodies, but he also has "custom" listings where you choose the wood and the details and he gives you a price. That's what this was. I don't have it in hand yet but the pictures look amazing, his communication was great, he asked me what neck, pickups, and bridge I was putting on so he could route and drill accordingly for me, and he sent me pictures during the build process. And to top it off he only charged me $225 + shipping. I will definitely be working with him again.

Yup, I chose the best chip I could find for the gain reduction indicator but its range still doesn't match the pedal's sidechain perfectly, si I had to choose between leaving one LED on all the time and a maximum of 6 turning on with the meter, or 2-3 on all the time with a maximum of 10 on the meter. It has nothing to do with noise floor or anything like that, it's just a weird chip that I haven't found a better replacement for.

i've tried several nordstrand P, J, mustang bass and musicman bass pickups. i like his mustang bass pickup a lot (and have one in my JMJ mustang), but the others were too 'modern' sounding for my taste. i guess that i'm just a 'vintage' type of guy.

As it turns out, so am I (a vintage type guy). At least with that bass. Onto SD Antiquity IIs and TI flats now and loving it.

In further pedal related news I got this board soldered up, I'll probably get a tube attached tomorrow so I can verify it before boxing it. Together with the transformers this board weighs about a pound (500g). It's going te be HEAVY.

I have absolutely no idea I would lean toward rock-ish maybe? My brain is ruined by guitar pickups, where "vintage" usually means warm but low output and "modern" usually means bright but high output. I like warm and smooth, which is why I play flatwounds on my bass right now, but I was planning to be adventurous and put roundwounds on this one, so I probably want a nice fat warm pickup to balance it. I was looking at Nortrand stuff I like the sound of these, any thoughts? NPVJ4SE Hum-Cancelling Set

For warm and smooth give a set of LaBella Copper White Nylons a try. They sound nothing like the usual black tape nylons. The copper set (there's a gold and silver set too) has some really nice complex mids and a warm overall vibe. Got a set on my favorite PB and a high-C set of them on my Spector fiver. Lots to like.

This is really exciting!!! I have been trying hard to resist GAS but either this, the Westinghouse or the Space Heater is going to make me cave eventually. Probably this.
