@Sushi Box FX I've talked to @Sonicblaze about another workaround, preparing myself for it, but before I get that ball rolling have you come to any conclusion/decision with the current Dr. Wattsons in the wild?
I have not, I haven't gotten back to working on my Dr. Wattson since the pads lifted on it. I'm going to try to get to it today, but no conclusion yet.

Would an inline attenuator solve the issue, without altering the pedal?

Yes, infact (unknowing the resistance...) I placed a EB volume pedal after it and that allowed me to run it fine, as long as I didn't step on it.. but I'd really like to get unity gain, at first I thought as it a always on so it didn't matter, Jhs LBB/Saturn audio ect would work, but I think I'm going to want to turn this on and off. Unless I used a fx loop with heavy pad, that's not happening

Thats a good point. Inline attenuators would not be a good choice if you're intending to switch the Wattson in/out as an effect. Not without both of them together in a loop switcher anyway.
 
Do tell :) If there was an easy way to add an always on resistor after the last gain stage to reduce the volume I would be super happy.
He's already done something similar but it's more involved than I thought at the beginning (before I contacted anyone), either way I'm probably going to try it out, its not too hard, nothing replaced, just added, no surface mount stuff (that's just scary :eek:), and terminating a line. In theory sounds promising
 
Well this isn't anything yet, when it gets released it will only have one transformer. The best transformer, obviously ;)

@Sushi Box FX - With how fast this thread moves and all the new projects you're working on, can you remind us... this is the transformer shootout for your Khan/Noble inspired tube DI, correct? Pretty excited about that one!

Yup, that's correct. I'm planning to do a couple different DI preamps, at the very least a PA version and a Slampegg version, but this is my method of auditioning DI transformers.
 
I am not a patient person, I hate waiting for things.

Just finished wiring up the DI shootout board and plugged it in without a box because I wanted to hear it. It's really tough to choose a favorite, both transformers sound excellent. Also the response varies depending on the EQ setting of the preamp, so I think when I have more time (and probably after it's boxed up) I want to do a bunch of recordings at different EQ settings so I can compare them over a range of tones.
 
Is there a distinct audible difference between them? I would have thought it would be pretty subtle.
From my 10 minutes of playing with it it can be subtle or distinct based on the EQ setting of the preamp. I feel like they both have the same/similar frequency range, but the response is different in some places.
