@Sushi Box FX what do you think of this? its my Dr. Wattson (that I still haven't sent off.. ) but I was wondering if the tube needs a replace as well, being mini I didn't know the possibilities
Maybe this stem will work..
I’ll gladly cough up another $30 for my April Westinghouse to get a trouble free tube. Say the word.
Same here
Good to know, I figured that would be the general consensus. I don't expect the price to go up that much, I'll have to run some numbers, but I think that will probably be the way I end up going if these TAD tubes work out. TAD are more expensive but quality aside I can also get them from an American distributor instead of waiting for them to come from Russia like the 6J32P, which means I also have a reputable company I can deal with if anything goes wrong.Me too
Absolutely, it would run fine with either of those for less gain.@Sushi Box FX could the Space Heater take a 12AU7 or AT7 if we wanted less gain?

A new tube should fix the problems, so if you think you like it enough to keep it with a new tube just hang onto it for now and I'll add you to the list of people to get new tubes to when I get the tube situation sorted out. Also if you're not comfortable changing the tube yourself you could send it back to me and I could do it. Alternatively if you don't think you like it enough or don't want to wait I can absolutely take it back and give you a full refund. My Westy showed up today. It says 9vdc so that’s good.
But, I do get “the squeal” on volt knob from 0 to about 2 o’clock.
Also clicking on the switch, tapping the switch and tapping the case results in a high pitched pinging.
@Sushi Box FX
What’s the procedure now? Refund? Ship me a new tube? Ship back for inspection?
I don’t want to keep it like this.
I have the Westinghouse right in front of me.
There is no noise when tapping anywhere on the enclosure while it is on a flat surface. However, when I pick it up and tap the vents there is a noticeable ping/static noise.
The squeal changes it’s pitch from fully CCW to 3 o’clock on the Volt dial. At fully CCW it is an in your face squeal like nails on a chalkboard. At 9 o’clock it’s a higher pitched squeal. At Noon an even higher pitched squeal. From Noon to 2-3 o’clock it slowly goes away.
There is a ping noise when engaging the pedal.
Other than that, it adds some nice tube warmth without noise from 3 o’clock to fully CW.

I ordered 6 TAD EF86 for now, they should be here by the end of the week for me to check out, and if they work as well as they are supposed to compared to the 6J32P then I'll order a couple dozen more so I have enough for this month (12) and to send replacements for the microphonic tubes from the March batch.

That would be great. I've started a list of user names of everyone that said they have a microphonic Westinghouse so I can ping people here when I have tubes to send out, but real names and emails that I can tie back to an order/serial number/shipping address are helpful.Thanks.
Please put me down for a new tube. I’ll try that before I decide anything.
Do you want an email from me?
I am super excited for this one. I still don't have a system in place to deal with dual builds on a regular basis (may happen eventually if I can find a good way to do it), but I made an exception for Rich after he drove down with his Alembic bass (which costs as much as my first 3 cars put together) to try some preamps out. That rig is absolutely amazing and I'm honored to offer a preamp that will compliment it.So I am introducing myself to the society as Nathan will be building me a Particle Accelerator based on the legendary Alembic F-2B (Twin).
Why have I noted that the PA is based on the Alembic you ask? Well because I will be running signal from my Alembic Series bass into the PA, and from there into my Alembic rack mount Superfilter which is on my pedalboard.
Looking forward to this combination as I`ve only owned the Superfilter and never had a F1-X or F2B. Having the warmth of the PA into the SF-2 will give me the tone I`ve been wanting and sure is a lot lighter than running a rig with an Aggie DB751 (which is the best my bass ever sounded). The pedalboard will output to either a Radial DI Pro/ TH 500 or both to FOH.

Alright, everyone that has a microphonic EF86 I will be pointing you to here, buy this (it's free) and I'll get a formal list of who to get a replacement tube to when I get my TAD EF86 in stock.

Awesome. It is a nice addition for the warmth and the size is right too. You’ll love it.So I am introducing myself to the society as Nathan will be building me a Particle Accelerator based on the legendary Alembic F-2B (Twin).

Looking forward to your comparisons! Especially curious if the SH can do the Westinghouse thingJust received my Westinghouse and Space Heater today. Glad to know that I can run them both at 9V (they both say 12V). I will check for microphonic tube action (which would be a great band name, btw) and report back.
