So here's my game plan: I just confirmed (had to turn my amp up enough to hear it) that my personal WH has the whine at low voltages, so I'm going to hack it a bit and try out an experiment for a LV/HV switch.
If you got a WH in March and really wanted the low voltage option, I'll get set up to have them sent back to me for a mod. If you got one in March and are okay just leaving the Volts turned up all the time, I want you to know you have my eternal appreciation and I'll find some way to make it up to you![]()
I've been thinking about that, I had a LUX a couple months ago that I couldn't get to sit at 220V like I wanted it to, it kept dropping to 60V, which in a 12AX7 means noise and lower output. It turned out to be a bad trimpot, I swapped the trimpot and it was fine. That was one of the factors that made me stop putting trimpots in newer designs (SH, Sunnday Drive X, King Nothing, BEX, etc), trimpots are more likely to fail than fixed resistors, so setting a fixed high voltage instead of adjustable seemed like a better move.Could this also explain some of the whine I'm getting in my PAx?

It sounds like I might be the sole dissenting vote here... but I'll sign up on the list to send my WH back, in favor of having the "It's the Edison but with 'more'" of the WH.
Even if the frequency whine may not be quite as bad through an amp, both my setup at home and almost all of my gigs are with IEMs. The frequency whine is loud enough directly through my IEMs that I can't even tell what the WH is doing below 1:00ish, I only know it's on/off by the squeal. And I 100% can't put that noise directly into the ears of a whole group. And while I certainly wouldn't plan on parting ways with something as unique as the WH, I know as a buyer I wouldn't want to hear "There's just one thing about it: there's this whine unless you have the VOLT knob above 1:00."

Just so happens I had gotten a purple PA puppy with green LED myselfso needless to say, I find it quite babealicious in the X form!
I've used these and they've helped on some microphonic NOS tubes I didn't want to get rid of, a lot "squishier", def take up more roomConfirmed mine (literally new out of the box 1/2 hour ago) has no whine at full volts setting. I'm fine with it as is, sounds great.
I do have some minor tube microphonics though when engaging the foot switch to turn on (or tap the switch with my fingernail).
Edit: I'll let it heat and cool a few times. What do you all think about trying a silicone damping ring on the tube?

I have been re-messing-up my board and I did run the DD with a 9V One Spot just fine. I normally use a 12V from a power block but I honestly couldn’t tell the difference and I heard enough chat that I wasn’t afraid to try out of laziness.@Sushi Box FX
Just wanted to confirm that the Deep Dish needs 12V and won't work with a 9V input like some of the other 12AX7 pedals?
I've never tried them, and unfortunately looking at the dimensions I'm not sure they'll fit. The 20mm rings list the outer diameter of the ring as 1.149", and the gap in the circuit board for the tube is only 0.9".What do you all think about trying a silicone damping ring on the tube?

So I just tried my TAD EF86 in my personal Westinghouse. I'm not hearing any microphonics, which is great, but I still have the whine from the power supply (albeit significantly quieter). I guess I'm going to be hacking into it to see what I can come up with. Stay tuned.

If it works the way I expect it to then I'll reach out to everyone in the April batch and offer the choice between a HV/LV switch and hardwired as high voltage, no more pot. I'll probably do this for May as well, then starting in June I'm thinking I'll just hardwire them for high voltage. If the Volts option as a knob was a dealbreaker I'm happy to refund anyone in April or May that ordered one.
EDIT: Just remembered my TAD EF86 are out for delivery right now, I'll wait until I try one out before hacking up my WH, for the sake of science.
