Ok, crazy question, but how the heck do you get your meaty man paws in to the box to swap the 12AX7 tube in a PAX.

I wanted to tube roll for fun (have a bunch of NOS RCA, Mullard, Telefunken, etc) and don’t want to mess it up. My fingers just won’t fit to roll it out.

Any suggestions?

I keep meaning to make a video showing how I do it, as I've done it enough to more or less have it down to a science. But basically I hold the pedal firmly in my left hand then squeeze the tube with the tips of my thumb and forefinger and gently wiggle the tube side to side while pulling it upward to get it out.

Putting a new one in is similar, but I've found it helps to line up the pins in the socket first while holding the tube at a bit of an angle with the top outward, then once you have all the pins in place wiggle it side to side and push gently down, like backwards of before.

One of these days I'll get a video of it and post it in the FAQ on the website.

BTW, there is absolutely no problem with the original tube as it sounds great. Just curious how the pedal takes to different tubes. Just the tinkerer in me.

I've also used a small plastic flathead screwdriver. I slowly wedge it under then rock it out. It works, just be cautious.

You could also try a rubber band around the tube.

Surgical style gloves can also give good grip.

Thankfully Mr sushi, in his infinite wisdom, put the pin gap in a place that makes this doable.

Got it! Put a NOS Sylvania in it.

lol. The Stock tube was quieter, although the Sylvania seemed to have more hair.

Stock tube back in.

Sounds and performs great as is.

I actually ended up using my plastic acoustic pin puller.

Works extremely well. I was able to pull and reseat the tubes in a couple of minutes.

Folded over duct tape - slip behind the tube, pull tight and pull. I seat tubes with a tongue depressor with a hole that fits over the nub

The Sushi Box Red Particle Accelerator has arrived and fits oh so very nicely into my recording setup. My new go to amp in a box until I can get on the $ to get build list for a PAX and an Echosaurus.

FYI the Donner Dumbal Drive is quite tasty for low gain crunch and munch tones especially for baritone and piccolo bass parts.
