Revisiting my mini Wattson today. Does anyone else have a whine that dips in frequency when they play?

This is my only sushi right now, (just sold a Ampeg preamp for this to replace) really is fitting the SVT sound well, or what I assume one sounds like. It started at the beginning of my chain, boy that was a mistake, wrecked any filters post. With the gain moderate - high there's many harmonics flying around. The low end breakup can be a little thudy, not sure if thats normal but after placing is after a dirty boost the breakup sounds great. Reminds me of a SVP-Pro. Deep switch is always on, I've learned to like the bright switch if my high cut is on the pedal before it. I also uses a resonate EQ after to tighten it up, really sounds good. Nice HUGE sound on my stingray, and cool Geddy mid vibes on my Jazz. So far a keeper! Nothing cool about this paint job though (which I selected), more function over form, I do like the red coming through.

Not from a Wattson (I do not have one) but definitely from some of my other Sushi's. Lemme ask you this...do you have any other Sushi pedals connected? If I connect my Lab Rat directly to my LUX it sounds like I'm trying to dial in pirate radio or something. Interestingly, it also happens with another maker's Rat type pedal.

Damn, that looks incredible! Although my OCD wants that top middle "V" moved to the bottom...

I'm also imagining those V's above the controls as angry eyebrows, but I don't think it would have the same effect with the knobs on.

I was debating on whether to have the V slots line up with the top or the bottom of the regular slots and went with top, maybe I'll try bottom.

Looks even better with the clear coat, but someone pointed out that I swapped the In/Out labels, which I did not catch. So that happened

I put the PA back on my big board for a gig last weekend, finally not needing the looper pedal that usurped its real estate for a time. This time, though, I ran it at 12V.

Glad to hear it worked out, I always enjoy reading your posts, but as a note the original PA is not designed to run at 12V and people have reported it overheating and shutting down after about 15 minutes, so if it ever stops working on 12V just unplug it, let it cool down for a bit, then run it at 9V and it should be fine. It sounds like it still worked for you, but just a note in case it ever doesn't.

Am I crazy, or does the PAX have slightly more compression when powered at 9v, and when the gain is near max with the volume used to control for overall output?

An interesting question I don't have the answer to, I've always been under the impression that 9V was enough to fully heat the tube to pass the same amount of current, and of course the high voltage will be the same regardless of input voltage, so I would expect them to sound the same, but I also personally run my PAX fairly clean. So it's possible that running the heaters a little cooler does limit the current, but that it's only really noticeable when the tube is working harder, making it compress a little.

A number of pages back I talked about noise that my mini-tube Wattson was having. The high pitch whine that accompanies it is just as you describe. Mine got better with time, but never completely went away, and now it seems like its' back. Along with the other strange noises. Unfortunately for me, it is an essential part of my sound. I'm afraid to send it back to get looked at because I'll miss it. I've used the PA, the LU and the Westinghouse. I've loved them all, but the Dr. Wattson is now in my soul.

Seriously, my head of QC is getting an official reprimand, so that's going on his record now, which will affect his performance review and effectively lower his pay.

It's performance eval season prior to fiscal year close. This is the worst possible time to pull a boner. Early December can risk a bonus, but this will go on his permanent record.

This particular employee is a serial problem. Every single problem my pedals have ever had I can almost always trace back to this guy. I'd fire him, but his wife basically runs the company, I'd hate to get on her bad side.

King Nothing arrived yesterday!

Imagine my surprise having completely forgotten that I ordered this pedal without a tube supplied lol. Grumbling all the way to my drawer full of bits and pieces. Reaching for a Genalex Gold Lion only to find a NOS GE in the box instead. Choosing a NOS Mullard that I found in a Tung-Sol box, and then trying to figure out how to get it seated in the socket. Using a small metal ruler with a hole on one end to push down on the tube… Success! Only to find the pedal won’t even produce unity volume.

*Deep Breath*

Open pedal. Wiggle Mullard out. Install a nice sturdy Sovtek excised from my old SVT-3PRO. Close pedal. Much louder. Success! For real this time.

By this time it was pretty much bedtime, but I did get a few minutes in with it on bass. I’ll agree with Sr. Sushi and say it’s maybe not the worlds best suited pedal for bass, but there’s a few tones in there that I’d be able to use. It’s got a really wide range of gain available, and the highest gain settings get pretty much into fuzz territory. I mostly bought it for my guitar rig though, so I’m looking forward to trying that out.

Now the real question is where is my Genalex Gold Lion tube? lol

The best part is knowing you have 2 pedals on order, but thanks to the time since they were ordered and changing said orders 32 time, you're not quite sure what might be arriving
