Bonus points if you CNC routed a tiny lip into the face of the pedal so the wood veneer inset is flush with the pedal
That would be absurdly difficult, that gets a no thanks from me :P The veneer is thin enough that it doesn't feel like a lot of added height to the face though.

You might bore out for the switch washer. That area may be a weak point and prone to splitting.
Yeah I'm trying to decide if I want to clearcoat or anything to help with that. I am strongly considering using some sort of adhesive to hold it to the metal, that should help prevent cracking as well. It is too thin to bore or mill though, this was laser cut. It's just a veneer, about 0.6mm or so.

You mentioned the underground accelerator has the best parts of the two pedals. Can you elaborate and likely stoke the GAS fires?
So this is the limited edition build I did on the fancy turret board with mojo parts, I haven't thought of a name for this run yet but the circuit is almost exactly the same as Underground Accelerator.

So on a technical level:
Start with a London Underground topology
Swap out tonestack for Particle Accelerator values
Swap first stage coupling cap for Particle Accelerator value
Swap first stage cathode bypass cap for Particle Accelerator value
Keep second stage cathode bypass cap as London Underground value

In layman's terms: it gets the gritty drive of London Underground with the low end fatness and warmth of Particle Accelerator.

I think the thing I like the most there is the tube on the side like that with all the controls together, instead of middle/split.
Good to know, this is the turret board layout I posted a while ago which necessitates putting everything on one side like that, but hell if people prefer it that way it actually makes things easier for me to do everything like that :P

I love it. Now imagine that plate on a white pedal!
I'm still trying to decide if I want to powdercoat it. I'm torn between matte black, white, and just a sparkly clear. I don't know yet. The faceplate itself will change, this one was just a test, but I think a white box with a darker wood veneer would look fabulous.

I'd think something like laser-cut the corners to rounded to match the enclosure corner radius for styling symmetry, then laser trim the whole veneer board 1mm smaller around the edges giving you a perfectly predictable size, then load the cutting outline into the CNC and have it mill the outline+fill.
Or something like that...just to put it into your head... :D:laugh:

I like the new design with the tube offset and the veneer just needs a slight stain to make the wood pop better . I am not sure a clear coat will achieve the same look as the right stain would but let us see ! Personally I'd try a thin swipe of red mahogany Minwax or something similar ..... Kelly

The laser engraved faceplate is interesting but I don't prefer it over your artwork or colored powder coated boxes that you laser engrave.
Yeah if I were to do this on everything I think I would get tired of it pretty fast, I still really like the UV printed artwork for options and consistency, but for an every-now-and-then/special occasions things I think it's neat.

So, if I already have a "London Underground with PA Tone Stack", does it have all of these changes?

Not quite, you're just missing the first stage coupling cap (LU: 22nF, PA: 100nF) and cathode bypass cap (LU: 22uF, PA: 47uF) changes. You've got the bulk of it though.

And I must have a UAX (Undergroud Accelerator)!

That's a lot of variations on the same theme. Which one is your favorite?

I went from standard LU-mini to LUPAX. I had a brief moment to A/B them before I shipped the LU out, and at their heart they were very similar. I could EQ match them with a bit of tinkering. I think the mini-tube / LU tonestack version was maybe a little clearer, and the LUPAX a little fatter, but overall definitely cut from the same cloth. I posted a short review in this thread a while back. Happy to have kept the LUPAX, but in retrospect, now that I've tried them both, I would have been fine keeping the LU-mini too.

There are ways to do it accurately and cleanly, but that's a level of investment in woodworking (not necessarily machines, but learning practices) that you don't need added to the list.

Dissenting view: not so keen on the asymmetrical layout in the new example.

I look at my SH and its simple, symmetric design couldn't be bettered IMO. With purple LED and gold knobs, natch.
And frankly I always assumed symmetry was the way to go, I only ever did the offset tube on designs where I needed more room for the circuit (Gondwana and this turretboard/mojo component build). Offsetting the tube so the whole circuit goes in one place is easier for me, but I personally also like the symmetry. I'll see if there's any difference in ease of access to the tube, it may be harder to get a tube in and out with it off to the side.

So put me down for one of these (if you are taking names and/or just seeing who all might be interested). :thumbsup:
Well the Underground Accelerator is going to be the new standard replacement for both the PAX and the LUX, both of which are being discontinued. The one in the picture with the wood faceplate is a limited run thing with a turret board, handwired with carbon comp resistors and axial film caps, I'm planning to do a total of 10 of them (at least for now), but I have no idea when I'll have to time to get the whole batch of 10 finished.
