Ooo...that'd be a tough choice. How different are the X series in terms of sound? Or is the X more about lower amperage draw?
How is the sound different between the 12AX7 and the sub-mini tube?
Sorry I missed this question earlier, Optipus is still a work in progress, I will be working that in parallel with the LA-1A clone. I sent it out for someone to have a look at and it had some issues, so I had him send it back and I'll be working more on it.Is the Optipus still a work in progress? I have so many compressors already, but I like optical comps a lot.
I was trying to get this one ready for January as well. I put the first prototype board together, but I want to mount it in a box to see how well the connector holds up.
I've been secretly working on an "X Series" of preamps, currently limited to PA and Slampegg, that use a 12AX7 instead of a 6N21B and run on a 12V input instead of 9V. These will go in a 125B enclosure, my standard size for top mount jacks, and will of course have top mount jacks. The tricky thing was fitting it in the enclosure in such a way that you could easily get the tube out if you need to.

Oh my... Can I push slots or maybe even trade slots? I must have both of the X Series Pres!I was trying to get this one ready for January as well. I put the first prototype board together, but I want to mount it in a box to see how well the connector holds up.

So I did it largely for lower current draw, this should only pull about 200mA at 12V, but also because a lot of people have asked about swapping tubes for tonal choices. 6N21B's blessing and curse is that military tubes are manufactured with tight tolerances, so any 6N21B more or less sounds like any other 6N21B. With a 12AX7 the tube you choose has a huge impact on your tone, and that's where the big difference is between this and a standard PA.
In Soviet Russia, tube buys you!6N21B, when your intercontinental payload must arrive on time, every time!
Yup, definitely shoot me an email for that. It's a lot easier for me to keep track of things via email.Damn this is awesome! Honestly I think I want to swap my December PA build for a Wrecking Ball (and send you some extra $ of course) and wait out getting a PA until the X models become readily available. Can I send you an email to figure it out?
I mean I could probably talk someone into trading slots with you and getting their build earlier. But obviously I still have some things to hash out on the X series, that's why I haven't opened February slots yet.Oh my... Can I push slots or maybe even trade slots? Congratulations! Enjoy some time off. I was kidding about trading slots. Just showing my excitement. I’ll definitely be buying two more slots in the February batch.Yup, definitely shoot me an email for that. It's a lot easier for me to keep track of things via email.

I have finished all of the October builds though, shipping notifications just went out for the last 6 and they will be dropped off at the post office tomorrow morning. I'm going to celebrate with some chips and guacomole then go to bed and have a relaxing weekend off (and by "relaxing weekend off" I mean wait for my wife to fall asleep then work on X series pedals; I'm not very good at relaxing).

With regards to this though I have my wife half-talked into helping out. I was going to have her run machines and do enclosure finishing, but a year or so ago I showed her how to populate circuit boards with components and she said she actually liked that and would be interested in doing boards. So for the November batch at least a few boards will probably be built by my wifeThe company's gonna need more employees at this rate!
