That would be super cool, but the box would have to be bigger I think. I might be able to squeeze it in if I leave out the turrets and put the parts straight on the board though. Not sure.

Are there any users of the Deep Dish comp here who care to sing praise for that pedal? And maybe set it in context with other high quality comp pedals?
Preorders will open soon and my SS will be here soon - when I retrieve the SS from the post office, I will completely stop waiting on a SushiBox pedal - a thing I kind of got used to.

Yup, there are a couple factors. This may be something worth adding to the FAQ on the website:
- The capacitors are the limiting factor for what voltage I set these builds at. On my typical SMD builds I use 250V capacitors so I run the internal voltage around 240V. The film caps I use on handwired builds are rated for 400V, so I run them at 350V. This provides more headroom, as well as gives a general feeling of "richness" to the tone. Hard to really describe, but easy to hear.
- Carbon comp resistors have a lower inductance than metal film resistors, which allows them to react more quickly to transients. The audible effect this has on tone is debatable, but from a theoretical perspective it's a thing.
- Film capacitors have a different dielectric than multi-layer ceramic capacitors, which also means that their reactance changes. Most of the time the only characteristic we worry about in a cap is its capacitance, but there is also an impedance across the leads, and depending on a couple factors the impedance will change depending on the frequency of the signal. Film caps have a more favorable reactance to multi-layer ceramic caps, so they sound different.
I mean I really like it, I keep my Deep Dish as an always-on "tone sweetener" at the front of my chain. I don't use overly aggressive settings on mine, but I like it for general smoothing/fattening. There are a good handful of others out there that have them, perhaps some others can jump in with their experiences.
I'll have to do some math and figure out how much I'm spending on parts and how much time they take me to build, but they should be a bit less than the handwired UA.
This is how I used mine as well. It sounded really really good set gently at the front end of the chain. I probably should have kept it.
There's a lot of squish on tap, if that's what you want. I kept it set pretty gently most of the time, as that's where it sounded best for me.
In fact, Sr Sushi, if you were looking to reinvent the Westinghouse, ie. a simple tube boost/sweetener/preamp with limited controls, whatever the preamp section of the Deep Dish is doing would probably be a good place to start.

Did some math for the Handwired Space Heater, looking at a price of $270.
It's really nice to get the family together this time of year. Sometimes it can be difficult for everyone to get along so I have to send some kids to different boards or to time out. But today it's all hugs and kisses.
I just want to make sure you get it right the first time!

Where ... the haters will have to shut it, because everybody knows that digital mojo sucks big time.
The mud is dialed out because of HPF and you can have face melting fuzz or roaring overdrive without the weird sparkles that hurt the ears because of LPF, your pedalboard mimicking your favorite cabinet because of that slight bump (or cut) at that sweet spot in the frequency spectrum. All there on a strong symmetric signal on the XLR out - and because the whole thing is so good that you even want to use it when you're playing actual cabinets, there is a 1/4" output, too.
There is no need to stop here!
If you wanna hit it out of the park, how about a real tube driven output with output transformer and dummy load (looking at H&K Bass Master or Ampeg PF20/50T), so you can have a DI out that gives you tube power amp compression?
Here I was, wondering if I might slowly accumulate too many Sushi Box pedals ...

Now that the secret's out, I feel like a have personally destroyed any chance at snagging one of those hind wired Space Heaters. If I had known they were coming so soon I would have kept my big keyboard shut. And my posting this message only reinforces the diminishing possibility. I need help.
Well there will be more than twice as many as there were hand-wired UA, so we'll see how fast they go. You may still have a shot. I never turn down a chance to post neat pictures, but I would have waited another week or so if you hadn't said anything.
same power supply as every other pedal yes/no?
Yes, but with one resistor change to increase the max voltage, and with a 400V reservoir cap on the output instead of 250V.
