Or could you let the client choose this as an option on the website when he orders the pedal? In the case of the Blackbird for example, I realize I moved the jumper to the "always on tube stage" position, and never need to change it.
That would either involve hacking the board apart to a point that I wouldn't feel good about it or redesigning the board and having a separate board specifically for that option.
Would this be sturdy enough when wiggling tubes in and out?
A solid question, I have no idea. I got the idea from a cheap Chinese tube pedal I have, and they have a pair of 1x3 connectors instead of 2x2 connectors. Theirs flexes a little bit with force, but doesn't feel unreliable. I think the 2x2 would be sturdy enough, but I would of course get one prototype done to verify before trying to convert everything I do to that system.
Would this also making tube rolling easier for the end user? It looks like the whole tube socket assembly can be unplugged, or is it still soldered in place?
It's still soldered in place, but with my current design the middle of the tube lines up with the main circuit board, whereas with this one the tube sits back a ways. This means it won't be snug up against the enclosure and also means there will be more tube to grip while removing, so it will make swapping easier.

just my suggest but PLEASE don't scissor your space heater box. the cat on guitar I'm helping on this upcoming tour got the donate from me of my first one when you brought me the hand wired version and the one word he used was "BIGGER" - I s h i t thee not and he has it always on now. great box, nathan, much respect to you. in my thinking, that baby's a keeper, it's 'pert-near like your very own pbass.

I don't have immediate plans for getting rid of the Space Heater. If I do add the tone stack defeat switch to the SMD UA then I would likely get rid of the SMD Space Heater, but there isn't room in the handwired UA to add the switch, which meand the handwired Space Heater would stick around.

as a matter of fact, my new HWDW is whining with any other pedal, even with separate power supplies.
it seems to be a charge pump/voltage multiplier issue.
The frequency that the high voltage SMPS in my pedals operates at is around 60kHz, well above hearing range, and the HW versions should be even higher, so I'm wondering if the operating frequency of some power supplies disagrees with the operating frequency of my SMPS and imposes harmonics on the line. There is one additional filtering measure I can add that has always been out there but had felt like unnecessary overdesign. May be time for me to start trying it out. Overdesigning is better than waiting for problems to come up.

Sorry about that, I had friday off work so I accidentally pulled an all-nighter thursday night, then crashed around noon on friday, but still woke up and worked until 2AM, then passed out and slept until 2PM today.
The good news there is that of the 37 pedals in the february batch, 30 of them have finished final assembly and the remaining 7 are waiting for parts. Of the ones that are finished about half have gone through testing and every single pedal that has been tested has passed. I plan to finish testing tonight and start shipping the ones that are ready tomorrow. I will then be taking a quick break from the february batch as I have a stack of repairs/mods that need my attention and I need to get those out while I wait for parts to come in (should be just a couple days).
