Yes to both questions. The Finally uses the same tube input and gain section that is in the Space Heater that feeds the DI output. The 1/4" output can be selected to be either dry pass through or from the gain section. The Finally can be placed anywhere in your signal chain depending on your needs.Trying to wrap my head around the tech side of things, ... with limited success so far.
- Does the Finally do everything a buffer does?
- Can place it in front of the chain my board using the DI to feed the Scarlett for recording and the 1/4" to connect to my other pedals and then the amp the same time?
As Brad said you can put it anywhere you want in the chain, but I should clarify that Finally does not have a low impedance output. Vampire Slayer has a nice low output impedance of around 426Ω, whereas Finally, Space Heater, UA, DW, Slampegg, and probably some others I'm forgetting have an output impedance of 38kΩ.Trying to wrap my head around the tech side of things, ... with limited success so far.

Taking a break to try out the new UA design idea I had. The tonestack bypass works great, completely turns it into a Space Heater. Obviously no tonestack is lossless, so bypassing it gets you a bit more output.
I really dig mounting the tube this way. It's way easier to assemble for me, and mounting it above the surface of the box not only better protects it from impacts but also makes the tube easier to swap out.
I also experimented with moving the status LED to the outside of the box. I'm not totally sold on it.

I'm sure 99% of people prefer the internal led glowing through the vents.
I like both.
My prefered configuration would be: an internal always-on led + external on-off indicator, like in the Edison preamp, but my internal led would be far less bright to feel more natural.
With all the world chaos, wonder what effect it will have on tube availability and pricing.
