The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

@Sushi Box FX will there be an SMD version of the Lab Rat or will it be HW only?
There will be an SMD version. I finished the layout Thursday and ordered boards, I'm hoping I can get them verified this month then thoroughly tested so I can make them available for ordering in the May batch.

HW Slampegg on order. Looking forward to doing a comparo with my SMD Slampegg X.

When is the HW Finally due ?
HW Finally and HWUA are both almost verified, I just got the v3 boards for them this week and built them up and they're working without the problems I was seeing with the v1 and v2 boards. I'm going to do some more thorough testing as well as send them out for unbiased third-party testing, and if all goes well you should see them available in the May batch.

I believe that to be true as well. The Finally is a sweet DI, the Subway DI+ is phenomenal though. If the Torpedo can do line level in/out with the sim engaged. Space Heater into the Subway, Torpedo in the line level efx loop of the DI+ and use the Subway's DI...

I have done SlampeggX into Empress Bass Comp into the DI+ and that was good... I might try the SH in place of the SlampeggX and see how close I can get with the Voicing control on the DI+

The only down side is if I go that route I won't have the lightning boy transformer and I'm wanting that to add some heft and slam to the low end. Maybe I'll try using the two notes directly after the mesa pre and use it's 1/4" outs instead of its XLR and feed it into a finally Di. My only concern with this approach is I'm not sure if having the finally after the speaker impulse in the two notes will cause any issues it seems weird not to have the speaker simulation as the absolute last thing in the chain and that was a big reason I used the torpedo cab m+ as my di previously. The only two other things I could think of as possible solutions is if Nathan is willing to make me one with the lightning boy transformer attached to a 1/4" out instead of a XLR or I buy a 2020 transformer and a space heater separate Wich is more clutter and less ideal.

The 2020's do fit (barely) under many pedal boards. But as you say...more clutter.

I have a NUX MiniStudio (IR) right before my finally DI and it sounds fantastic. No issues at all. This is for my IEM church board though, so YMMV.

The LBA2020 certainly does a little something special to your signal, it is essential to my recording chain.
The LB DI transformer is not the same as the 2020 or 2020s but each has a nice additive character to your tone.

Does the Torpedo output an effected instrument level on the 1/4" ? I did a quick read on it and didn't find that answer. If it does, I would just take that to the Finally and call it good. In effect, all you are doing is taking the Sushibox DI to FOH rather than the Torpedo DI. The relative positions of the speaker sim and DI remain the same.

It didn't look to me like the Torpedo could deal with mic level in. Just not enough signal on the input. If it did, you could wire up an unbalanced xlr patch where xlr pin 2 goes to Tip 3 goes to sleeve.

Don't have a Subway DI+ (yet) but I do have a SansAmp ParaDriver DI on my church board.

HWSP > compressor > DI sounds great!

This is similar to my plan for the church I just joined... Korg Pitchblack..Space heater..Cali76cb...Damnation Audio MBD2( hopefully replaced with Sashimi Fuzz)... Providence Anadime Bass Chorus.. Mesa(non +) Subway DI

Is there a way to get a space heater with the lightning boy transformer fed on a 1/4" out instead of XLR like the finally di? I use my two notes torpedo cab m+ as my di currently with a mesa subway di+ Infront but I wanted to add some more tube warmth and heft to it or is there a better approach?
I could build a Finally with the transformer output going to a stereo 1/4" output, but the transformer in Finally is a LBA MC-15, not the LBA2020S, it's not just meant to add color, it's meant for impedance matching. If you're just looking for the transformer coloration I don't have any designs off the shelf ready to go. You really need a 2020S, it's better suited for the job. I considered doing a preamp design around the 2020S and he even sent me one to check out, but I never got around to it.

Hey, how do you like the JCE?
I’m digging it. It was a little shyer on low end than I preferred by itself, but I added a Mesa 610 (IIRC) cab sim behind it in my Helix, and that *really* brought it to life in the lower notes. I’ve currently got it set up for a brighter, grinding rock tone, that’s actually quite “Geddy-like”, but with its own character.

I think it’s going to be on my board for a good long while.
