I rebuilt my board recently and all (both) of my pedal preamps are on the main board now. Which means now I don't have a spare preamp available for a grab-and-go situation, without bringing the whole board. Might be time for a HW UA next. Or a Smoke Signal. Or SBVT.

Yea I’m actually thinking of ditching the messenger in favor of a finally.

Good news is this came in today...

Bad news... I cannot easily AB test it with my existing Slampegg Bee Pre X. I get a ton of squeal out of the HW Slampegg when both pedals are plugged in (even if I move them around in the chain).

Since I did not plan on using both on the same board, I am not going to spend any time or effort trouble shooting it (beyond the quick order switching that I tried, which only showed that the noise stays with the HW rather than being order dependent). Hoping I do not run into the same issue when my HW Finally comes in, because I will have to figure it out if that happens. Powering both with a CIOKS 4. May have been able to solve the issue by moving one of the pedals over to the Voodoo Labs power supply that is on the same board, but again did not bother with it for now.

In my brief testing, I am happy with the sound I get out of the HW Slampegg, but have not tested enough to be able to provide any more detail than that.

@ahadl2500 I would be very interested in a comparative set of samples if you get time. I also had squealing with PAx and SlampeggX, SlampeggX and Space Heater and PAx and Space Heater. I did try using a One Control buffered boost between the SBFx boxes and that didn't clear it up for me. I didn't mess with it long though.

SlampeggX is still my fav SBFx though.

I had the same problem. I tried putting my compressor between the 2 sushi pedals, but I still got the same noise issue.

i had the same problem when i had and SMD Dr Wattson and a HW one. i sent it back to see if Nathan could solve it (but it also had a few more issues that needded to be fixed) he ended up refunding me for it. i hope that he has it solved now since i ordered another HW version that's is supposed to arrive at the end of this month, or the beginning of next.

Bummer, I was really looking forward to a good comparison of the SMD vs HW versions of the Slampegg...

Got back from delivering my route today to find a box of Chi-town sushi on my case..

Can't wait to get home a try it out..
HW Space Heater, by the way. Hopefully my One Spot daisy chain will work to at least test it out, until I can get a proper power supply.

I get squeal and noise from running a PAX, UA, and finally together, in any order with 2 or more Sushi boxes.

I am able to get around it by putting my Hyper Luminal, or Nux mini studio between them.

I just reconfigured one of my boards for IEM use for my tribute band and church, I am running my Nux between the UA and finally, powered by a Ouija and it works without noise.

I went to do so this morning before I could talk myself out of it only to discover that I was late to the party. How do I preorder for an upcoming month? Or am I so late that it is going to be many many months before it’s possible?

I get a squeal from my Sashimi Fuzz, unless I turn on another pedal before it. I’m using an Eventide PowerMax and an Eventide PowerMini on that board, but it’s not a power supply issue, as I tried powering the Fuzz with a separate power supply and it actually got a bit worse.

Not a huge deal for me, as I only use the SF with my MXR VBO and IE Xerograph Deluxe, and it’s dead silent then. Just kinda weird.

SMD uses machine placed parts on the circuit board to keep cost down - this is confusing as there are still hand placed and soldered parts on every pedal.
HW or Hand Wired use more hand placed and soldered parts that run at a higher voltage for better headroom resulting in some sonic improvement, there is a premium charge for this $60-75 depending on the pedal.

@Sushi Box FX this should be a FAQ with a photo of each type of pedal side by side to illustrate the difference.

Handwired uses full-sized components that can operate at a higher voltage than the smaller SMD components can. Due to that, the tube in a handwired Sushi Box pedal runs at about 350V, while the tube in an SMD version runs at about 235V.
There haven't been a lot of comparison reviews between the two yet since the HW models are still fairly new, but supposedly running the tube at a higher voltage results in a slightly "bigger" or "fuller" character, but I'm just repeating that as second-hand information since I won't be receiving my first HW pedal until next month.

Well after reading many posts in this forum, and after listening to several of the preamp pedals on the site I’ll hopefully be placing my order next month. What pedal did you decide on? I’m looking for a good preamp/di… I’ve seen quite a few people drooling over Finally, but it’s sadly the one that I haven’t seen a sound sample on lol
