Funny, I grew up on Bassman and Showman Amps. I spent ages tryimg to get an SVT to give me what I wanted - which was the big, fat, juicy, electric scoop I had in the Showman. I got there but it was not love at first sight. These days I'm more drawn to the Baxandall or Baxandall. When I want the Fender thing, I fire up a BMaxT and in 2 secs I have it.
I think the key in fonding a sound with the Fender/RCA stack is starting with Mids all the way up, Nass nd Treble all the way down. Bring the bass up to where you are happy OR where things start to get flabby. If flabby, back off thr bass and also a little mid. Bring up the treble to taste adjusting the volume along the way.
Or just set Bass, Mid and Treble at 6 and use Satan's tone ;-) Only partly kidding, on a Tele guitar 6-6-6 sounds great.
I feel the same way about m'peg circuits, though I've tried.
I had in my rider that the promoter owed me various sizable cash payments if any A#### gear was ever provided as backline. I gleefully collected more than once.
I've almost always started with everything at noon and adjusted from there until my ears and fingers were happy. My first guitar amps were tube Fenders and bass amps were Fender-ish solid state Peaveys and those have always felt most like home.
If you want one, I’ve got one I’d part with. I’ve got wayyyy too many distortion/fuzz/etc options right now, and I’ve realized I need to drastically simplify my setup.
I'm probably in the minority, but I would prefer a Fender tone stack. A nd hey, if you could somehow squeeze a semi parametric EQ in there ..
So whatever I end up putting in it's going to be passive. An active EQ is typically a filter put into the feedback loop of an op-amp stage, and common-cathode tube stages don't have feedback loops. So basically you use the tube stages for gain and general frequency response control to push the EQ the way you want it. I'm still leaning towards the Baxandall, I'm undecided on the mids control. I gave it some more thought today, but Señora Sushi and I continue to be busy so no solid decision has been made.
Just so I'm clear, we're basically discussing adding EQ to a Finally (which is basically a Space Heater with a DI), right?

Or at least a toggle to bypass whatever tone stack is in it. Having two different EQ choices with a toggle would be the ideal option but that might be too much to squeeze inside the enclosure.

Seems to me, the enclosure would probably have to be larger than the Smoke Signal.
Might be easier to get a Slampegg Bee and an Underground Accelerator, and then A-B them into a Finally.
A bypass toggle is a good feature. Then you could add whatever other external preamp you might want.
For purely selfish reasons, since I already have a UA, I would prefer a Baxandall tone stack with a bypass toggle, but the bypass is not really necessary, you can just set it flat.
Almost sounds like there a market for a cheap non-tube EQ pedal that has both fender + baxandall tonestacks, with 2 footswitches: total bypass, and EQ selection, in a 125b or 1590b box.
Let people have both/try both/bypass to hear the EQ difference, and let the tube come in a pedal after so the EQ pedal itself is smaller, and make it low cost
At the very least, a few of them would make for great tour boxes to ship around for people to try.

Finding "flat" with a Baxandall tonestack is so easy, and one of its greatest advantages.

Space Heater + D.I. = Finally
Space Heater + Fender tone stack = Underground Accelerator
I'm not a circuit expert, but that would be ridiculously difficult. For one thing, even the potentiometer values are different in a TMB (Fender) tone stack vs a Baxandall tone stack.
