I love the way my basses sound, and the few preamps I have are all I need, but if I could have a pedal, box whatever, that allowed me to control the breakup, and type of breakup to add to my tone, that would be awesome

You mean a bit like the bias control in the newer versions of the BK Butler Tube Driver?

I have not tried that, but I will look into it. I like all the themed pedals that all these makers create, but in the end I generally like the sound of my tube DI and / or bass the most, some of these awesome preamps don't always break up the way that you would like so having more control over that would be awesome. I would assume changing the bias to hot or cold would change where it breaks up, that and tube warmth are priority, and would be fine, but also imagine being able to change the type of breakup, possibly with more than one kind of tube, or being able to change the gain stage. I mentioned putting op amps in there to give it another kind of breakup, but that can either come or go, sometimes they take away from the tube warmth.
I'm not sure if this is complex or not, you see valve casters, valve drives but they all have some kind of EQ. Maybe a defeatable EQ

I'd be on board with this as well.
A simple volume and gain setup to add some tube warmth and grit to my signal.

I hear what your trying to say. I recommended a Mesa D-180 Pre to Nathan a while back. The D-180 has a special feature with the master where at 10 it’s clean and the lower you go, the more breakup and distortion. I believe it’s starving a driver preamp tube and it sounds unbelievable. It’s some of the best tube distortion/overdrive I’ve ever heard out of a tube amp without pedals before it.

Yeah I remember that, you had to keep it at 10, and use input 2 for bass, but below 7 it got crazy sweet. Very much what I'm looking for (also what the p15 does past 1 oclock but I'd like to apply that to any of the preamp/power amps I'm using

I'm also wondering if this is even possible while still retaining the natural tone behind the pedal/box, I know this is going to change up the harmonics ect. and whatever is behind it will react differently because so

The deal with buying a Broughton pedal because it says Broughton on it is real. Because you know it's going to sound good.
The same is true with Sushi box. They may not always be your cup of tea but they never sound bad

If you’ve read any of my other posts, you’d know the answers to those questions. You’d also know I’ve never had anything but good things to say about either Broughton pedals or Sushi Box (heck, Josh actually “liked” the post that you’re getting all defensive about). Regardless, I don’t feel I need to further explain myself.

Have you peeked at the Sunnday Drive? It has its own boost switch along with the drive, so a bit more foot-control on tap
