The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Except that people are buying Sushi Box pedals because they sound great....not just because they say "Sushi Box" on them.

Have you tried a Broughton pedal? Or a sushi box for that matter? I have used both, extensively. They are both great.

The deal with buying a Broughton pedal because it says Broughton on it is real. Because you know it's going to sound good.
The same is true with Sushi box. They may not always be your cup of tea but they never sound bad

I’m torn. I was going to order a PA-X, and then I remembered that the London Underground is very similar sonically to the PA. Second thought was Slampeg-X, but feels like I’m cheating on my Broughton SVPre.
As I use an Ampeg -albeit an economical one! - I wanted something a bit different so ordered a London Underground, in sparkly orange of course.

There's plenty of spots to order all 3 and have a shootout....

I'm thinking it's going to happen. I still have the Noble preamp disassembled and sitting on my workbench for me to figure out what makes it tick, but unless there's some magic ingredient I'm not expecting I don't really expect to do anything resembling a clone of it. More likely I'll do a similar D.I. adaptation with the Particle Accelerator as the preamp.

Interesting to hear about the Noble. From the reputation it has around Talkbass, one would think your sound follows the yellow brick road through a magical world of milk & honey before getting sent back out to the world.

You also mentioned possibly doing something similar to a Khan/SVT DI... did that get shelved? I was really on board with that idea. A simple tube DI could really be pretty slick for pedal combos, you know? Like, instead of having a permanent Accelerator DI, I could pair the Sushi Box "Khan" DI with the Slampegg, or the Accelerator, or the Wattson... etc. based on mood or gig.

Just curious of course! The idea of an Accelerator DI is quite intriguing. I've never tried an Alembic/Fender style preamp!

5sg.

Quick question: Is the Dr. Wattson also upgradable to X Series? The website doesn’t list it on the X Series upgrade link, and I have an order pending that I would love to upgrade if possible. Thanks!
@Sushi Box FX would have to comment on feasibility of it. The only options I've coded for him so far are:
"Particle Accelerator", "London Underground", "Slampegg Bee Pre", "Lab Rat"

If I had to take a wild, zero-actual-truth-based, left-field guess, it's probably something to do with the DrW being 2 tubes, and shoving 2 fullsize tubes in the 125bb enclosure wouldn't be feasible.

Slept until 11AM and missed a bunch of messages. Feel pretty good though :)

Damn - no shipping to Switzerland... another dream crushed in the cart...
I got your message, I'll get that put in today. Sorry it made you miss out on March, but April and May are still open.

Is there anyway you could make a tube drive, no eq, just a heater? Caster type I really don't need the "pre amp" or modeler but just the tube grit/drive control, I use my bass and preamp to still control the filter @Sushi Box FX
So like a simple one knob preamp just to add a little warmth? I could definitely do something like that if there is interest in it.

Personally I would be more likely to use something like the Khan D.I., so I'm planning to do both, give people options.

Not currently. As @Sonicblaze mentioned it's a size thing. I can fit any single tube preamp with a 12AX7 in the current size enclosure, but if I move up to two tubes it will have to go into a bigger box. It doesn't mean I won't do it, Dr. Wattson has gotten a lot of attention and I think a 12AX7 version would be really cool, but it's definitely not available now. I'll put it in my list of "things to develop."

LA-1A based compressor
Simpler and smaller tube/optical compressor
Khan-esque D.I.
Noble-esque D.I. (PA preamp)
Brassmaster-esque fuzz
Tube mic preamp (for a friend)
Dr. Wattson X

Am I missing anything?

Tube Muff. Like the Lab Rat, but Muffed out! :)

Gain and Volume and maybe mixed with some op amp staging, but mostly the gain/volume. I would like to add a nice variance of different warmth>grit>od to my signal but retain, for the most part my signal tone. Basically the gain set out of any of the tube pedals, but try to have a variety of different breakup. Really only two knobs, I wouldn't even care for a stomp button but I guess if you used it for OD or soloing that would be nice to have.

Honestly whether people know it or not, I bet a lot of them looking for this tube sound, want this. I know a lot of folks buying preamp pedals and preamps just to get the tube break up and "warmth", and don't really care too much about what the EQ brings to the table. I love the way my basses sound, and the few preamps I have are all I need, but if I could have a pedal, box whatever, that allowed me to control the breakup, and type of breakup to add to my tone, that would be awesome
