I have absolutely no need for a JCE, but your descriptions make it seem like a great pedal for when the mood strikes.

I'm in the market for a new amp head. Deciding between a pure solid state or go hybrid with a tube preamp and solid state power amp. I'm thinking I could save some $ and just go with the solid state head since I get tubeness from my DreamCatcher, and could even add a MORE to finish out my chain and not miss the preamp tube in the head. Seems if I go with solid state I get the flexibility of switching out my preamp to the Sushi flavor of the day.

I have a tube hybrid head (Orange Terror) and SS (Mesa Subway 350). While the Terror sounds nice with some Sushi in front of it, it's surprisingly the Mesa where you can really taste the quality of the fish they use at SB HQ. Perhaps it's just the redundancy of stacking Orange-flavoured Sushi into an *actual* Orange, and the fact I like the dry sound of the Terror more than the Mesa, but you really notice the signature tonal characteristics of the Sushi with the Mesa. Probably true of many of the neutral sounding Class D SS offerings on the market today. YMMV of course!
I used a GK MB500, GK MLS or a powered PA speaker and the Sushi Box tube preamps are pure magic.
The UA in front of my GK 400RB IV is amazing. The 400RB sounds great on its own, but adding the Sushi to it makes it like having a 280w Bassman tube amp.
I use a Fender Rumble 500 combo and 2 x 10 extension. My set up is geared to be an ampless set up so I plug my pedal board into the amps Return input and it sounds great for me, plenty loud enough and the speakers in the cabs sound real clear. Accurate representation of my DI tone. A mix of Source Audio + Sushi FX is a fantastic mix.

I used to use a Mesa WD800....but after bonding with the U-Accelerator, I moved to much smaller/simpler SS heads and use my pedals for tone polishing. I need to have eq on the head (esp. for mids, since the passive tone stacks on currently offered SB pedals make it impossible to boost mids without another eq). I have a Quilter BB802, a Genzler Magellan 350 and a Jay Ganz straight ahead 500 watt power amp. The heads give me much more powerful eq than the pedals, aux-in, DI, and they sound fine on their own. The Jay Ganz power amp is a backup.
I use a genz Benz streamliner (hybrid) and Genzler Magellan (no tubes). The streamliner has been a long time favorite of mine and I didn’t think anything could knock it off the throne, but my sushi pedals in front of the Magellan are starting to make the king sweat. To me, they do not sound as good with the streamliner. At some point, too many tubes start to muddy up and blur the tone more than I prefer. Others seem to think the more, the better. No right or wrong, just preference. I’m leaning toward the Magellan with sushi pedals as my main rig. Not only is it sounding better, but if I ever had a tube issue, it would be easier to pull from the equation and continue.
Hi all, new to Sushi Box and relatively new to bass in general. I'm considering a Finally as my first preamp/di and have some questions (that have probably been answered many times already in this very long thread). I can't find any demos on YouTube fwiw.
So it doesn't have a switch which means it's always on. What sort of range should I be expecting from clean to dirty? I like my current bass tone. It could be better, maybe? I dunno but for the moment I'm happy. The only sort of dirt I have is a Green Russian which I use more as an OD than a maxed-out fuzz. I will mainly be using this as a DI into my interface into my DAW, as well as using the it into the SS amp. Both would be through my whole (pretty simple) pedal chain. So will there always be a sort of tube saturation or can that be dialed to completely clean? How gritty can it get when I need it?
Using a P-Bass, Mustang, and Bass VI. All passive.

Yea, that's what I'm thinking, too much in the chain can muddy things up. Currently I have a Tonehammer and totally bypass the preamp and go into the return jack since I get all my tone from pedals anyways. I'm pretty much always going to have at least one tube preamp pedal anyways so I don't think I'd be missing out.
Sometimes I miss the simplicity of just plugging straight into my amp, but that was in my days in a bad garage punk band, but then I listen to old recordings and shudder at my tone.
It can be dialed clean/ warm through purt durn hairy.
How might you rank for versatility as a first-in-chain pedal on a compact pedalboard for electric bass and guitar...

I don't play guitar, so others will chime in on that, but of those 3, only UA has eq. Finally has both gain and vol. More is clean only.
If versatility is the criterion, seems to me it's gotta be UA way out front, Finally a couple of lengths back, More soundly in last.
While I haven’t seen any feedback with a guitar, the Elementary should also be a consideration. @Sushi Box FX might be able to comment on how it sounds with skinny strings.
i don't have a More or a Finally, or an UA...but i have Particle Accelerator and it is incredibly versatile for both bass electric guitar. in fact, i am currently using it as the foundation for my ampless acoustic guitar rig and it is perfect!! with the benefit of the UA tonestack bypass, i think you can cover a lot of sonic territory across multiple instruments with a UA.
Also, if you are planning to use a SB pedal as a first-in-chain unit, the Finally may not be the best option, as most folks on here ae using it at the end of the chain, to optimize the the XLR/DI output....my guess that is partially why it is named "finally"
The Finally DI is always on with the tube preamp feeding the sweet LBA transformer, it ranges from tube clean to crunchy so it can enhance your given sound. The 1/4 output can be pass through or driven by the tube preamp. It does indeed impart a warm tube kiss to any amp.
IMHO all those pedals are better running at the end or near end of your signal chain, running them first robs you of the true benefits. Were I forced to suggest a front of chain drive it would be the Finally as it is based on the Space Heater.
The UA and all the other preamps I have tried sound great on guitar even the Slampegg Bee gets a really nice jazz guitar tone. Even the guitar oriented JC Emerald is rockin' on bass.
MORE is best when you already have a great sounding bass or signal chain you love and want to take it to the next level higher.

It sounds amazing, and it's the sound that has been in my head for years with no noise or hum.
It's like my Demeter rack pre on steroids and a lot more convenient.
The Finally DI is a beast and it has probably the best transformer available.
I can't wait to use it on a recording session.
We're fortunate to have such great devices available and at very reasonable prices, all made in America.
