The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

OT, what is wrong with your LB? I own one as well, so just curious.
It has been broken for over a year now so my memory may be a little hazy...

It started being noisy, I didn't think much of it since the power in my apartment suck and there is always a little bit of noise in my setup but it got worse over the course of a few months. Then one day I plugged in and no sound came out. But every time I plucked a note the VU meter would redline. As far as I remember I always played it with a cabinet hooked up but sometimes my cable does cut out so maybe that had something to do with this. I really don't know.

My other amp is a Walkabout so I am still very happy with my amp setup but there really was some magic in the tubes of the LB30 and I really really want to hear it with my Subway 1x15. And maybe get the amp tech to install something lower gain than the stock 12ax7/ECC83 and try an 12at7 because I have my dirt needs covered really well with pedals and like my amps a little cleaner.

Can anyone offer some in depth insight as to the tone characteristics of the Particle Accelerator ?
What is the Tone stack based on and what would be the settings for a "flat" tone ?
How does it compare to the Underground Accelerator ?
Thanks

Also, is this primarily a guitar pedal or is it good for bass ?
Thanks
I’ve got one of each and I really like them both. I primarily use the UA with electric bass and the PA with both Electric Bass and Double Bass on doubling gigs. Both sound fantastic, both have a 12AX7, and both see heavy use depending on which setup I bring to a gig (self supported gig box vs back line tiny board). If I could only have one, I might lean towards the PA just because it sounds so good with my Double Bass, which is the majority of my gigs.

Question for folks who own both an Elementary and a UA; do you find there is much/any tonal overlap between the two?

I would definitely like to pitch in and help out the Sushi Chef in this little crunch period. Will eventually put together a wee, li'l fly board, and wondering if I'd like the Elementary on there, instead of a second UA. Absolutely nothing wrong with just grabbing another one, since I know I love the UA, but I've also always loved some of those "classic" Hiwatt bass sounds (looking at you, early 70s John Wetton!!!). Typically my UA is set *just* on the threshold of breakup, so if I play like Geddy Lee (ie: Hulk Smash), it gets a bit hairy, but is otherwise a nice, thick, clean sound.

The literature suggests the Elementary would do this well, but just hoping for some confirmation opinions before I go in and pull the trigger.
I borrowed a UA for a bit, but never really gave it a fair shake.
I have a Dr Wattson, which is close enough to an Elementary.

Like @CH Design , I also have a Broughton Silver Deluxe.

He nailed it as far as tonal differences.

I don't see there being any redundancy owning both a UA and Elementary.

They're pretty close tonally. Basically if you take an Underground Accelerator and move the tonestack from the end of the circuit to the middle, you're 95% of the way to a Particle Accelerator. It's the same tonestack, same settings for flat tone. It should be pretty clear why I discontinued the Particle Accelerator when I started making Underground Accelerator.

On an unrelated note, we finally got our new furnace installed today and inside the house is 14 degrees cooler and 40% lower humidity than it was yesterday, so it's a lot easier to work now.

Also I finally was able to get the supply chain issues worked out that were preventing more Venus X builds. I've mentioned before that this is the most complicated pedal I've ever worked on, and that obviously comes with its share of headaches, but hopefully I should be in the clear now.

I've been told professional demos are in the works by a handful of players, so I'm hoping to be able to get those posted as soon as they're available. If people want to wait until they hear more of what this pedal is about before pulling the trigger I completely understand, and I plan to keep these in stock as best I can. But for those that impulsively buy the next shiny thing, I have 6 in stock right now and plan to get at least a few more when I get my next order of Lightning Boy transformers.

That sums up my experience between the two. Any difference I might think I hear is probably just personal bias.

By my ear the PA and UA are very close but the gain characteristics and deeper tighter bottom end of the UA makes it more versatile, a clear choice for bass especially.

FWIW I sold my PAX to get a HWUA [my second UA] although I did keep my mini tube version of the PA in my recording set up. I am considering getting one of the new UA with the higher operating voltage even though I have a HWUA on my main pedal board.

Would you say one is closer to the alembic sound than the other or just splitting hairs? Sounds to me either should do
If that’s cleaner tube pre is what I want just wondering if I find the old run
Pedals will they work as well or what new to
Sushi but sold on what I’m hearing!

I haven't had the chance to A/B one against an actual Alembic in person, but I would say both are probably equally close and it's getting into splitting hairs territory.
