It took me longer to fall in love with the UA than I expected, but I think that's because I was trying to make it do something I wanted in a way that it wasn't prepared to provide. Once I rolled a few tubes through it, used my ears instead of my eyes on the eq, and faced the obvious fact that how it sounds in the bedroom isn't how it sounds on stage... we started getting along much better.

Same here. I tried to run too many tube pedals and into an amp with a tube pre. It was too much. I now just have the MORE and will be getting another UA before end of year.

What Sushi box would you recommend for recording? Preferably small box. I'm looking for new ways to record direct, with or in parallel to a DI box, and maybe some sort of tube pre would be a nice touch..

I use a RNDI now, has anyone used the Sushi tube DI?


Edit: I also notice that most of the pedals are "Available on backorder". How long would the wait be?

I’ve used a Finally into my DAW. It has a Lightning Boy Audio transformer on the DI out and sounds really nice. Finally – Sushi Box FX

Depends on what flavor Sushi you would like? Fender, Ampeg, or Original (Venus X)?

I run an UA, SV-Pre, and a finally all together to get the tone I like. So it really all depends on what you want to accomplish. The finally tube DI is my favorite DI as far as features and price. Hard to beat. Wish I had one 30 years ago. lol

Elementary or Dr Wattson are also fantastic options. I use a broughton proto di so I can always switch out which preamp im using.

If you are quite happy with your tone going into the RNDI now and just want to "tubify" it and make it better/bigger, then I would recommend getting a Sushi Box - More

It depends, but I usually try to fill them within a week. The only holdup right now for Finally is that I'm out of transformers, but I have some on order and expect to be able to build up a couple more units when they arrive later this week, in addition to the one Finally that's already been backordered.

Recent sushi box convert here, I bought a Lab Rat X from a TBer. I have some beginner questions:

- Is there any documentation? I can’t find a web page or manual for the Lab Rat X specifically

-I run it at 9v from an Isobrick Mini, what am I missing from the 12v option? I don’t have a way to test the difference but i’m within the return window of the Isobrick

-Where do you guys put it in your chain? I have it after my OD and before my comp, but i’m not sure if tube pedals like being in a particular spot in the chain

I haven't made anything labeled as Lab Rat X for a while so that's likely going to be an older one. I never wrote up a formal manual for it, and I think the product page is long gone. Anything in particular you want to know about it?

9V will be just fine, you won't get any benefit from running it at 12V.

As for where to put it in the chain, that's going to be up to you. You can put it wherever it sounds good, no real right or wrong answer.

I was just wondering what any differences were between the Lab Rat and the X variant. This one has the boost, 3 way clipping switch, and Gain/Drv vol/Tone/Bst Vol controls. Curiosity's sake more than anything so no worries if you don't remember

Cool collector piece.
In most ways is similar to the current version Lab Rat but instead of the bass/treble tone controls you have the addition of an independent clean tube boost.
