The Sushi Box FX Secret Society

Speaking of Finally, I'm running low on circuit boards which means it's time to think about modifying it before I order more boards. I don't want to do anything major as I'm thrilled with Finally as it is and have received nothing but positive comments on it.

But there's a quick question that someone brought up in an email that got me thinking, please take a look and cast a vote: Market input for D.I. outputs

BUT WHAT IF I CAN TAKE PERFECTION AND ADD A HPF AND A SEPARATE VOLUME KNOB FOR XLR AND 1/4" OUTPUTS AND KEEP IT THE SAME SIZE AND SAME PRICE???

See it's not even your fault I don't sleep at night, it's just my brain. I told you it's a mess in there.
Those would be worthy additions. Happy dreams.

Not looking to complicate things... but a Space Heater and an HPF go together like peanut butter and jelly, cold and ice, P-Basses and tort pick guards.

And a LPF too? :)

Since were on the subject, I'll throw in my 2 cents (not that anyone asked)...
One of the things that doesn't work for me about the Finally is the gain. If it's your only gain stage, it makes sense. However, if you've got other pedals before it, adding "hair" at the end of your chain doesn't work for me. I'd much prefer to see the More circuit tied to a DI and the above mentioned changes. I guess that would make it a Furthermore without the 4 band EQ.

If we're bring More into the equation then the conversation changes entirely. I really need to buy a More pedal just to see how I would like it. I keep convincing myself I don't need it... but I'm not very persuasive.

And that's something I think about a lot. I have a lot of people telling me they use a 12AU7 in Finally so it never overdrives because they just want clean. Finally is one of the only tube D.I.s I know of that can overdrive, and some people don't need that.

But I also have a lot of people telling me that Finally is the only pedal they use and they like being able to dial in some grit, and that the other tube D.I.s out there are "too clean".

I HAVE TO FIND A WAY TO MAKE EVERYONE HAPPY AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE TO.

Space Heater > Effects Loop > More > DI

Clearly that's a bigger enclosure though. And if you're going to go that far, why not make it modular (in terms of the boards) so you can order an of your single tube pedals (Space Heater, UA, Elementary, etc.) as your first "stage" for character?

Sorry, this isn't helping you stay on track with your priorities!

Sometimes I have WAY to much time on my hands ...

Currently using my Space heater near start of chain to add hair and a couple of Mores at the end (then an RNDI) I do have a Microthumpinator at start (hpf) too. It works a treat

THIS! Would love a MORE with DI, that then frees you up to add dirt or not etc earlier in the chain.

I've absolutely toyed around with a More D.I., given the popularity of More I'm aware that would be something people would want. The main reason it hasn't happened yet is that in my opinion part of More's charm is its small size, and adding a DI would mean it would have to go into a larger enclosure. Not necessarily a dealbreaker, but a consideration. I don't know. We'll see what happens. I need to sleep more.

What else could you fit in the larger enclosure to make the added size worth while? A HPF and LPF seems like a reasonable option. Separate volume controls for 1/4” output and DI has already been mentioned. Bass and treble (James) tone stack for minor tone adjustments?

But then, you're getting awfully close to Furthermore, which is already in the works. I think you could add an LPF and a Pre-Out/Dry-Pass switch for the 1/4". That would cover 90% of my end-of-chain needs.

Nathan: should I make the Finally DI level fixed or separate volume internally?

Secret Society: here's 17 more concepts for a preamp with just the gizmos I need. Oh and you should make it customizable so there are 33 possible combinations to choose from.

:D
I mean you’re not wrong… but I’m proud of myself for not asking for an XLR I put this go round.
