Would you speak of a possible revolution if we were talking about a much older person? Age seems like the key factor in this statement to me.

What does age have to do with the argument we're having? Whatever compelled you to make the discussion about her age?

Of course there is no doubt that if she was 60 and been playing for 30 years I wouldn't be saying this. She's been playing 5 years and her chops are amazing for such a small period of bass playing. I can't begin to imagine the monster player she will be in another 5, now that she's getting into a serious music scene and starts to play with musicians like Caliuta.

Yes, age is the key factor, where did I ever disagree? Seems to me like this is your fallback after you omitted twisting your tongue seven times in your mouth before speaking when you were previously arguing about gender.

I've got to go with Jon on this one. After watching/LISTENING to the Jeff Beck vids, it seems to me that she has a talent that is way beyond her age and experience on the bass. She came to the States as a guitarist (from what I read) and switched to bass. Landed a Sadowsky endorsement in short order and obviously has appropriate connections. Add to that, she has a pretty good talent in the live situation. Seems to me that the keyboard player was pretty much blown away by her ability to carry the weight of the solo she did (just view his reactions on-camera), perhaps her abilities as a whole. There's something there that's a whole lot more than jeans and t-/flannel shirts...there's more there than what causes her to be attractive physically to people...Her own stuff? Not so much my cup 'o tea. I like what she did with Beck better. But, she is the REAL DEAL...I think we'll be hearing more from her...especially if she takes the bass where Jeff Beck took the guitar.

More power to her! I am starting to think she is causing as much talk about her playing as CAROL KAYE which is not bad at all, because Carol has skill as well.


FWIW, There are plenty of TBER here that I would love to sit under and learn from, and I would be more than happy to include her in that group!!!!!

I'll do you one better. I'll bet that there are guys who've been playing twenty-five years who aren't doing what she's doing. I'm one of them. But that just makes me appreciate her talent more.

She's talented. She's not a kid, she's an adult (she just looks younger). There are many talented players in the world and some get more attention than others. It has to do with knowing the right people, getting a few breaks here and there, and taking advantage of those breaks. And in the end, you've got to be able to do the gig once you do get the big break. She got some opportunities and has done well with them. I think she's got a bright future.

No hiding behind the wall avatar...Carol Kaye is an incredible bassist with credentials I'd die for. A total PRO from start to finish...it's not about sex folks (well, maybe for it is for some of the reading public)...it's about ability...from the heart and brain

Agreed, that is why I said thats not bad at all. But some get very uneasy about Carol Kaye and the whole, did she play on this or that thing, and forget about the fact that she CAN PLAY..PERIOD...which is the reason for my hiding behind the wall avatar.

Now where did I say that age or gender were the main factors of her getting that kind of exposure? And no, we wouldn't be talking like that about a 40-year-old with these kind of skills, even if that person had only been playing for 5 years. Of that I'm sure.

That said, I'll be excited to see what's happening in her future. Hopefully, she won't let all this fuzzing get to her and keep her from doing the good work she's doing already.

Thats kind of what I was getting at with my question. I respect her as a musician but am failing to see what she is revolutionizing as a bassist. There are many many fantastic music writers that her age that use various instruments as their "voices" and her voice happens to be the bass.

But, even as a musician (as fantastic as she is at composing or creating basslines however melodic they may be) I'm not seeing how its to the point where she is changing the face of music in her genre as people are implying by saying she is revolutionary.

I dont think she is asking for it.. She is just doing her thing.. Its the crown that seems have been bestowed upon her by reading peoples opinion in this thread.

As far as her responding to this thread about her talents etc, I would suggest not, all of it is just a matter of opinon, and although many here appreciate what she is doing, it will certainly lead to nothing more than someone using this forum to take a public cheap shot at her and engage her in some foolish argument. Just my 2 1/2 cents As I have said, more power to her! BTW, this is a good time to read my sig in regards to saying anything negative about her or her playing for those who choose to do so.

Jesus christ, who even got started with revolutionary? What kind of burden is <i>that</i> to put on her shoulders? Our instrument isn´t that young anymore, it´s not like a new jaco is gonna come and find out how to use it.
Shes just a really talented young musician, who even happens to be a girl (how cool is that!?!) I mean, listen to the Jeff Beck stuff, she´s really good. And if you put age into the equation, I´m inclined to say her playing is extrordinary.

You hinted quite a few times that her age and gender were the main factors, in fact you said yourself "age is the key factor here" and also "would she be getting this kind of talk if she was older, or a man".

If she'd been 40 and playing for 5 years, there would be as many morf's posts in here you can bet on that, and I'm pretty sure she would get just as much talk, if you omit the "OMFG SHES SO CUTE A GIRL BASSIST IN HER 20s BLA BLA BLA I WANNA MARRY HER AND HAVE HER BEAR MY CHILDREN" which really, I dont even consider noteworthy.

As for the fuzzing, she's playing with Jeff Beck, I really doubt that a thread on TB where mostly unknown bassist praise her playing will have her get a big head

There is no leaving age out of it. She's what, 23-24, 5 years of playing, and she has major chops, a monter groove and is playing with Caliuta. End of discussion as far as I'm concerned. If thats not enough for you, give it time, within a few years I dont doubt for a second you will agree
