the TRACE ELLIOT thread: Part II

Yea I actually just sent off my both my V-300H and my V-type preamp for a lookover/minor repairs to british audio supply. So far its been a pleasure to deal with them. Its nice knowing my amps are in good hands with people that know them inside and out and not just at some random shop with people just following schematics.
Flea market score... Just picked up a cherry GP715sm for 50.00 usd; well the guy wanted 50 but all I had was 44... Took it home and it works flawlessly.

So I need to buy a new amp. My old AH350SM is gonna have to serve as a backup when ever it gets out of the shop. I'm taking this as an opportunity to upgrade.
If anyone can help, I'd like to get a Trace(AH, GP series) preferably 12 band. At least 350 watts, 500 to 600 would be ideal. I'd like to spend $400 to $500 but I am willing to negotiate.
Or if anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to fire away.

+1 I just bought an AH1200SM from a fellow TBer and Im keeping my fingers crossed it will be here by my gig this weekend! Im so glad to be back in TE world, I have other amps I love but nothing does the TE sound imbedded in my mind like well.. a TE does!
BTW can anybody give me some specific Rack Models that I can put this head in with the black light installed?

I have just bought an older AH1000-12 GP12 as a backup head to my V6 which has been in repair since June. I'm a big Trace fan, this being the third Trace I have owned after the V4 which I sold to get the V6. I've been gigging with my other spare head which is an Eden since June. The Eden is a really nice head but can't be considered in the same league as the Trace. I have a few Questions about the AH1000-12
I didn't get a footswitch, and it is designed to use a 5 button one. Will the newer 6 button switch that comes with the current AH1000-12 work with it or do I have to trawl ebay for an older one? There is one on there now but they wont ship outside the UK.
It has a single Speakon connecter that is labeled as biamp only. Is it safe to use this with anything other than the BFC?
The speaker outputs are on XLR connecters. If I want to make XLR to Speakon cables for the AH1000-12 what would be the pin assignment?
It's quite amazing how innovative Trace were able to remain for so long. When you look at the AH1000-12 and the V8, Trace were doing things that no other amp builder was even dreaming of. It's no wonder that artistically creative bassists like Tony Levin and Doug Wimbish were drawn to Trace Elliot and stayed with them for so long.

Here are a couple of recent Trace Elliot acquisitions. The first is a 1524 in really great shape. Man, does that cab sound good! And it's not anywhere near as heavy as I had expected.
The other is another Twin Valve Combo from Steve Azola. I bought one from Steve some years back. He had done some modification to the enclosure to improve performance (and I can't say if it did or did not improve, not having heard it before his tweaks, but I certainly like it as is!). This one has been modified even more. Steve built the wood head case, and it fits very well (the top grill is loose in that picture on purpose - I'm going to try some different tubes in there). The enclosure has been modified to use a 12" drier (instead of the 15"), and again, it sounds great! Steve know what he is doing. The 12" seems to be a bit more even from top to bottom, with improved focus.
Man, I do love Trace Elliot gear!

Yeah, it is the lightest 103 lb cab I have ever lugged around! Sounds great with the Valve series heads. Have you tried it with an SMX yet? SMX + 1524 = punch city!

Definately post up how the V series compares to the Valve series through the 1524. I am very interested in hearing your thoughts on the two.

Will do (when I can find the time, which is scarce). In the past, with other cabs, I have found the V8 to be more aggressive and yet also more clear than the Valve series, with the Valve heads being more smooth and a tad more round (but still very articulate).

I sold my Sound City Bass 150, but I did pick up a Reeves Custom 225, and yes, I bet those two will play quite nicely together!
I'm sure the 150 went to a good home.
And I'm sure the Reeves is no slouch in the grand tradition of British Rock Tone. Have fun!!!!

OK Kids, I just scored a 1210T SMX--it's a 410 combo non-tweeter cab. I can't seem to find any info anywhere. Ideas? Oh, pics will follow as soon as I find my camera.
