the TRACE ELLIOT thread: Part II

OK--here's the new rig:

Cool, eh?

Is anyone in the U.S. using an XLR-Speakon speaker cable for their Trace Elliot heads that have an XLR speaker out?

I had one made for a V6 I had a while back. Sold that with the head, but I was thinking about having another made. XLR and Speakon seem to be a much better connection then any 1/4" can do.
The Trace Elliot manual states: "However, due to the higher current rating of the XLR socket we recommend this is used whenever possible".
I have a 6' 12 gauge 1/4" to Speakon cable that I was going to have cut in half and the 1/4" replaced with XLR.
Good idea, bad idea, waste of time? Thanks!

After a few years away from Trace kit, Im glad to be back in the club!
Ive just got a V-type 300H and the compact 1x15 and 2x10HF cabs. I'll be selling my hartke rig asap and starting to gig the TE rig this weekend!

Ive also had a BLX80, a BLX150 and 715 combo before this setup.

I just picked up an old GP7SM250 and a TwinValve. I haven't received the TwinValve yet, but the GP7SM250 made an appearance at practice last night and sounds amazing. It blew away my Eden Nemesis RS400 both in volume and pure bassy tone and warmth.

Anyone know where I could find manuals for these two amps?

Also, I have a VERY old Trace 4x10 cab with the funky "greenish" speakers. Does anyone know what the impedence was on each speaker? The cab is at my singers house, so I can't open it up and check right now, but I think the TwinValve will be a little pickier about using the correct ohm rating than the SM250 is, and I don't want to fry the OT.

The reason I ask is that someone replaced one of tens in that cab with a 32ohm Trace/Celestion 10" replacement speaker at some point. I think there is a mismatch because my 4x10 is putting out 3x the sound that my TE 1x15 is putting out.

Thanks in advance!

Heres a question for Trace Elliot lovers.
If I had an old Trace Elliot head AH350SMX
Would it sound drastically different through an Old 4x10 trace cabinet as compared to the new 4x10 cabinets with Neo's in them?
Has anyone tried that yet? I love the look of the new cabinets, and the good power handling. If they are half as good as the old ones they would still rock.
I just am terribly dissapointed with the sound of the new heads though. They sound so honky and trebly and they seem to fart very easily. The signiture Trace Elliot Low end sound that no one else ever came close to producing is dead and buried. The only way to get that sound again is to find an old head, which is what im doing now. But if the new cabinets sound as good as the old ones, id rather have the new ones. And bedisdes, they look awsome cool.
