the TRACE ELLIOT thread: Part II

Japh said:
There's a XLR and two 1/4 for connect a cab.
When I use the XLR, all is OK.
But when I use the 1/4, I lost the 18' speaker, only the 10' makes sound.
There is the same problem on the twice 1/4.

There should be 2 of each type. One set for input and one set for output (adding another cab inline).
Do NOT plug inputs to the outputs or two inputs from the amp. You will blow both units .
The XLR is the better of the 2 and transfers more signal than 1/4" connectors.

I'm looking for a 15inch trace at 4 ohms but can't find one . Are yours 4 ohm, do they even exist at 4 ohms?

Phil.
None vintage (1518. 1153, etc) those are 8 ohm.
All new Peavey era 15"s will be 8 ohm unless it had a driver replacement - like my 1518 redline pre-Gibson model is now 500 watts @4ohms with the current Celestion for Trace Elliot driver.

Current Peavey era models are 500 watts@4 ohm.

the 1524 is a 2x15@ 4 ohms

Hehehehehe......

Well my Unkown Trace SMX came in today, ...on the back where the model No# would be written in makrker, its worn off.....If I open this up is there a way to tell if its a 150 or a250 or anything else ( i know its not a 600SMX)

its a 250, and its a mess, EQ balance knob is split, all the pots are xtreamly scratchy and the solid state side of the balance knob doesn't work.
Has a Groove Tubes 12ax7 in it.....but its loud when it works(lol)

The 12ax7 is what it's supposed to have.
The scratchies can be easily fixed with contact cleaner - follow the directions - radio shack.
What do you mean by "split" in the EQ balance knob is split?
You may just need new pots for the EQ balance and Blend controls.

I'm just amazed at the volume difference between the GT tube and the stock Trace Tube, I took the one out of my SMX preamp...also tried an old RCA 12u tube, real ampeg type sound, but half the Volume.
The GT tube seamed to distort at 5 on the Imput gain control.
The split I'm refering to is where the knob rides on the shaft...no big deal.
The more I worked the Blend pot ,the better it seamed to work, At one point last night I got sound out of it with the solid state setting, but only for a few mins.
I think this poor ole SMX just needs a LOT of TLC.

Quick question for you savvy Trace techs.

I've got a GP7SM 130 and 2103H cab.

My question is this: there are two speaker outputs each labeled "Speaker 8 Ohms".

May I run two 8 ohm cabs in parallel with this amplifier? Also, may I run one 8 ohm cab and one 4 ohm cab?

Thanks! :D

You can run 2x 8 ohm cabs, side-by-each out of the jacks; or "daisy-chained" in-line from a single jack (total 4 ohm load)...

You can run a single 4 ohm cab out of one jack (4 ohm load)...

You can run just one 8 ohm cab (safe, and still effective with this amp, which is a powerful little booger)...

You can not run a 4 ohm cab along with any other cab: Running a total of LESS THAN 4 OHMS will likely burn out your amp.
